Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an iOS Engineer, App Analysis based in the United States. We are looking for a talented iOS Engineer to help strengthen mobile application security by developing advanced tools that identify vulnerabilities and privacy risks in iOS applications. In this role, you will contribute to the evolution of sophisticated static and dynamic analysis engines that examine application code and behavior to uncover potential security issues. You will collaborate with a distributed engineering team to research new detection techniques, improve existing analysis capabilities, and develop innovative security checks. The position combines hands-on iOS development, runtime analysis, reverse engineering, and practical software engineering. You will have the opportunity to work on open-source technologies and contribute directly to tools that help developers build safer, more privacy-conscious mobile applications. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and exploring the inner workings of mobile platforms, even without a previous background in cybersecurity.
Enhance static analysis capabilities: Develop and improve tools that inspect iOS application packages (IPAs) to identify security vulnerabilities, privacy issues, insecure configurations, and potentially dangerous code patterns. Improve dynamic application analysis: Contribute to the development of instrumentation tools that analyze application behavior at runtime on physical or simulated devices, helping detect risky operations and potential security weaknesses. Research new security detection techniques: Investigate emerging iOS security risks, explore application internals, and design new automated security checks to expand the scanning engine's detection capabilities. Develop and maintain analysis tools: Build, test, and optimize software components that support reliable, scalable, and effective iOS application security assessments. Explore iOS runtime behavior: Analyze application execution, runtime APIs, and underlying platform mechanisms to understand how applications operate and identify opportunities for deeper security inspection. Contribute to reverse engineering initiatives: Investigate application binaries and internal behaviors to uncover implementation details, understand potential vulnerabilities, and improve analysis techniques. Collaborate with engineering teams: Work closely with mobile engineers and other technical specialists across geographically distributed teams to share knowledge, review solutions, and deliver product improvements. Support open-source development: Contribute to relevant open-source projects and leverage existing tools and community knowledge to advance iOS static and dynamic analysis. Maintain software quality: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, test new features, troubleshoot technical issues, and continuously improve the reliability of analysis tools. Help developers build more secure applications: Translate technical research and identified vulnerabilities into practical detection capabilities that enable customers to improve the security and privacy of their iOS applications. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience. Professional experience: At least three years of experience working with mobile technologies, including iOS application development or mobile software engineering. iOS development expertise: Significant hands-on experience developing iOS applications, engineering mobile software, or building tools for the iOS ecosystem. iOS runtime knowledge: Good understanding of the iOS runtime, application execution, platform architecture, and the mechanisms that govern application behavior. Python programming: Some experience writing scripts, utilities, or development tools in Python, with the ability to use it for automation and technical problem-solving. Static analysis interest: Familiarity with application code inspection, binary analysis, or automated techniques for identifying software defects and security weaknesses is advantageous. Dynamic analysis and instrumentation: Interest or experience in examining application behavior during execution, instrumenting software, and investigating runtime interactions. Reverse engineering experience: Familiarity with analyzing, modifying, or understanding compiled iOS applications is a strong advantage. Objective-C runtime knowledge: Experience with Objective-C runtime APIs, method swizzling, or related techniques for inspecting and modifying application behavior is beneficial. Relevant tooling: Exposure to tools such as Frida, CydiaSubstrate, or similar application instrumentation and reverse engineering frameworks is a plus. Problem-solving ability: Strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and the ability to investigate unfamiliar technical problems and develop effective engineering solutions. Collaboration and communication: Ability to work effectively with distributed engineering teams, communicate technical findings clearly, and contribute to collaborative software development. Learning mindset: Motivation to explore new technologies, research complex application behavior, and continuously develop technical expertise. Cybersecurity background: Previous information security experience is not required. A strong software engineering foundation and a willingness to learn application security are more important. Benefits Remote work: Opportunity to work remotely within the context of a distributed engineering organization. Full-time opportunity: A full-time engineering position offering the chance to take ownership of meaningful technical projects. Engineering-driven culture: Work in an environment that values engineering excellence, technical curiosity, and individual contributions to product development. Product ownership: Opportunities to influence technical direction, improve core analysis tools, and take responsibility for projects aligned with your interests and strengths. Technical growth: Develop expertise in iOS internals, application analysis, reverse engineering, runtime instrumentation, and mobile security. Open-source involvement: Opportunity to contribute to and learn from open-source tools and projects related to iOS application analysis. Collaborative international team: Work with engineers across the United States, England, and France, sharing knowledge and solving challenging technical problems. Meaningful impact: Help developers identify security and privacy risks earlier and build more trustworthy mobile applications. Career development: Expand your software engineering skills while exploring specialized areas of mobile application security and automated vulnerability detection.
