Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Software Engineer, Platform Engineering based in the United States. We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to shape the platforms, tools, and services that enable teams to build and deliver software more effectively. This full-stack role combines backend and frontend development with DevOps, automation, and internal platform engineering. You will improve developer experience, streamline software delivery, and strengthen the reliability, security, and maintainability of production systems. Working closely with product, platform, and application engineering teams, you will influence technical direction and champion scalable engineering practices. You will also mentor colleagues, guide platform evolution, and turn operational insights into continuous improvements. This is an opportunity to make a broad technical impact in a collaborative, distributed environment supporting access to knowledge and education.

Architect, develop, and maintain internal platforms, services, and tools that support CI/CD, automation, and efficient software delivery. Own the development platform lifecycle, including pipeline design, deployment strategies, platform automation, and developer productivity tooling. Apply DevOps and platform enablement practices to improve engineering velocity, software quality, reliability, and operational efficiency through standardized development pathways. Collaborate with product, platform, and application engineering teams to understand developer needs and improve workflows, usability, and accessibility. Build scalable backend services and RESTful APIs, alongside intuitive internal web applications and user-facing interfaces. Mentor and coach engineers on architecture, coding standards, DevOps practices, and user experience considerations. Facilitate technical deep dives, design reviews, and training sessions to encourage shared learning and consistent engineering standards. Evaluate, prototype, implement, manage, and retire technologies based on their suitability and long-term value. Contribute to platform roadmaps and translate organizational objectives into actionable technical initiatives. Take ownership of systems throughout their lifecycle, supporting reliability, maintainability, security, and ongoing evolution. Participate in incident response, production support, troubleshooting, and remediation activities. Improve availability, alerting, performance, capacity planning, cost management, recovery processes, and technical debt, using operational feedback to drive continuous improvement. Requirements At least 8 years of experience as a full-stack software engineer delivering large-scale, distributed web applications. Strong product thinking and the ability to build engineering communities, influence technical direction, and support shared goals. Proven experience designing and developing scalable backend services and RESTful APIs. Hands-on experience building internal or user-facing web applications with modern frontend frameworks such as React or Vue, applying UI/UX and accessibility best practices. Working knowledge of CI/CD concepts, automation, and software delivery pipelines, using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent technologies. Practical experience contributing to or operating internal developer platforms, engineering enablement tools, or shared services. Strong experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, and EKS. Experience deploying applications with Docker and Kubernetes. Hands-on knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application and infrastructure performance across the stack. Comfort working in Agile, cross-functional, distributed, or self-directed teams. Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts, architectural decisions, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders. A commitment to continuous improvement and building clear, reliable, maintainable systems. Deep expertise in every listed technology is not expected, and onboarding, mentorship, and ongoing learning support are available. Ability to work and reside within the continental United States. Benefits Salary: Starting annual salary ranges from $145,000 to $160,000. Starting pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for benefits-eligible employees. Retirement: Employer-paid retirement contribution of 10%. Paid leave: 22 days of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and up to 12 sick days. Family support: Paid parental and caregiver leave. Wellness: Wellness benefits and additional programs for eligible employees. Remote flexibility: Remote work available within the continental United States, with a distributed workforce.
