This role offers an opportunity to advance the preservation, accessibility, and reliability of legal scholarship through innovative digital infrastructure. As Legal Digital Scholarship Project Manager, you will lead a one-year initiative to integrate Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) into an established web preservation service supporting the legal community. You will assess current practices, define technical and operational requirements, and develop sustainable workflows aligned with scholarly publishing standards. Working with legal scholars, law journals, library professionals, registration agencies, and technical teams, you will coordinate planning, implementation, and stakeholder engagement. Your work will help strengthen legal citation practices and make digital scholarship easier to identify, preserve, and share. This collaborative, research-oriented position combines project management, digital preservation, metadata, and legal information standards.
As Legal Digital Scholarship Project Manager, you will coordinate the planning and implementation of DOI registration processes for legal scholarship and web-based materials. You will bring together stakeholders, technical specialists, and registration partners to establish practical workflows and a sustainable operating model. Your responsibilities will include: Review existing practices and systems to identify requirements for assigning DOIs to legal scholarship and web materials. Monitor developments in legal citation standards and ensure project decisions align with emerging requirements and established scholarly publishing practices. Evaluate DOI minting options, including Crossref membership and alternative registration approaches, and recommend the most appropriate solution. Develop and document eligibility criteria, policies, and workflows for DOI assignment and registration. Lead outreach and engagement with law journals, faculty, clinics, and other stakeholders to establish consistent DOI registration procedures. Serve as the primary liaison with DOI registration agencies, coordinating permissions, clarifying technical requirements, and facilitating collaboration. Work closely with technical teams to design, test, and pilot DOI integration into existing digital preservation systems and workflows. Coordinate project activities, monitor progress, identify implementation challenges, and maintain alignment among participating teams. Prepare clear technical and operational documentation, policy recommendations, and guidance for the long-term management of DOIs. Produce interim and final project reports summarizing completed activities, challenges, outcomes, and recommendations for future service management. Support the development of a sustainable framework for preserving, identifying, and sharing legal scholarship over the long term. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an organized information professional with experience in scholarly communication, digital preservation, or metadata management. You should be comfortable coordinating complex projects, interpreting evolving standards, and communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The following qualifications and skills are sought: At least five years of post-secondary education or equivalent relevant work experience. Experience in scholarly communication, metadata management, digital preservation, or a related information services field. Familiarity with Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and other persistent identifier systems. Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and keep initiatives on track. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear documentation, policies, and project reports. Experience in law libraries, legal publishing, digital repositories, or academic information services is an advantage. Ability to research and interpret scholarly publishing practices, metadata standards, and developments in legal citation. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly when evaluating technical options and developing sustainable workflows. Ability to collaborate effectively with librarians, researchers, legal professionals, external registration agencies, and software development teams. A proactive, detail-oriented approach to planning, documentation, stakeholder outreach, and project delivery. Benefits: Comprehensive health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance beginning on the first day of employment. Paid time off: Generous paid leave, including parental leave. Retirement plans: Retirement benefits with university contributions. Wellbeing support: Access to mental health resources and wellbeing programs. Family support: Resources and benefits for families and caregivers. Professional development: Opportunities for continued learning, including tuition assistance and reimbursement.
