Leiden University is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher at the intersection of machine learning and wildlife bioacoustics. The position is 32–38 hours per week in LIACS and offers a full-time gross salary of €3,546–€5,538 per month.

Complete research opportunity details

The postdoc will conduct research on machine learning and wildlife sounds, with possible topics including low-footprint ML, acoustic signal processing, active learning, representation learning, vocal-interaction analysis, category discovery and perma computing. The researcher will work with Dr. Dan Stowell's team in LIACS and collaborate with the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre. The initial contract is one year and may be extended by another three years after a positive evaluation. The package also includes 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% year-end bonus and other Dutch-university benefits.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in computer science, acoustics, signal processing or a related field; have a strong publication record in machine learning and/or computational audio; have good Python programming skills; show interest in biodiversity, animal behavior or animal sound; and have high proficiency in spoken and written English. Familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or JAX is advantageous.
