The Ministry of Defence is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Director, Public Relations, Advocacy and International Affairs.

The successful candidate will spearhead the development of public relations, advocacy and international affairs policies and strategies for the Ministry and provide strategic recommendations to the Secretary for Defence.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop public relations, advocacy and international affairs policies and strategies.

  • Manage the drafting of statutory instruments and general notices, including referral to law officers and publication in the Government Gazette.

  • Coordinate Defence Bilateral Joint Permanent Commissions and SADC Interstate Defence and Security Commission meetings.

  • Oversee the preparation of speeches for the Secretary for Defence, Minister of Defence and President.

  • Prepare responses to parliamentary questions concerning the Ministry of Defence.

  • Assess geopolitical and military developments and provide strategic advice.

  • Supervise preparations for Defence Forces Day celebrations and ZDF exhibitions at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Harare Agricultural Show and other events.

  • Monitor current events, media coverage and public opinion to manage reputational risks.

  • Oversee departmental budgets and funding strategies.

  • Supervise, coach and counsel subordinate staff.

Qualifications And Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • A degree in Politics and Administration, International Relations, Public Relations, or Media and Mass Communication Studies.

  • A relevant Master’s degree.

  • Relevant professional experience, including at least two years at Deputy Director level.
