Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mobile Principal Software Engineer based in the United States. The Mobile Principal Software Engineer will lead the evolution of a mobile engineering team as it transitions toward an AI-first product platform. This hands-on technical leadership role combines mobile architecture, AI-assisted development, backend collaboration, and product strategy. You will help reshape the participant experience across iOS, Android, and web while building development practices that enable teams to deliver high-quality software at unprecedented speed. Working closely with Product, Design, and engineering partners, you will balance rapid experimentation with scalable, maintainable architecture. You will mentor engineers, improve delivery processes, and influence the direction of the broader participant platform. This is a remote-first opportunity for a product-minded technical leader who thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.

Lead the mobile engineering team, guiding its technical maturity, architecture, and evolution to support an AI-native product platform. Establish an AI-native software development lifecycle for mobile engineering, incorporating AI coding agents, evaluation frameworks, review loops, and quality controls to sustain rapid delivery. Drive a thin-client architecture for the participant experience, moving business logic toward backend services to keep mobile applications streamlined and maintainable. Contribute to Python-based AI backend services when new capabilities are required by mobile, using AI coding agents to accelerate implementation. Define the direction of participant APIs and the broader participant platform, influencing technical decisions beyond the mobile team. Allocate approximately 70% of time to supporting the product team and 30% to self-directed technical leadership, platform improvements, and strategic initiatives. Improve engineering processes across the mobile team and partner teams, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, quality, and collaboration. Apply DevOps principles to strengthen continuous delivery pipelines and improve the reliability and operational performance of SaaS and mobile systems. Mentor engineers, support their professional growth, and contribute to the continued development of the wider Engineering organization. Participate in organizational security and compliance initiatives, supporting a platform operating within SOC 2 and HITRUST certification requirements. Collaborate with Product and Design as a strategic partner, helping define problems, evaluate trade-offs, test assumptions through prototypes, and build durable technical foundations where appropriate. Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, identifying dependencies, potential conflicts, and opportunities for shared solutions while maintaining alignment with business priorities. Requirements: More than 10 years of software engineering experience, with substantial mobile development expertise and Principal- or Staff-level technical leadership scope. Demonstrated impact and delivery are more important than job titles. Experience developing for both iOS and Android, with the flexibility to work beyond the mobile ecosystem when business or technical needs require it. Hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar tools to deliver meaningful production work, along with a clear perspective on designing an effective software development lifecycle around AI agents. Strong systems architecture experience spanning backend API design, databases, mobile DevOps, and the trade-offs involved in designing connected product systems. A proven track record of leading technical improvements, mentoring engineers, and helping engineering teams grow. Expertise in cloud-based SaaS architecture and evolutionary software design, with the ability to modernize existing systems while building for future needs. Familiarity with Agile practices, DevOps, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), observability, tracing, and data- and metrics-driven decision-making. A strong product mindset, including the ability to understand business problems, challenge assumptions constructively, and partner effectively with Product and Design. Excellent technical judgment, communication, collaboration, and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently while staying aligned with organizational goals. Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where priorities and responsibilities may evolve. Availability to work core hours from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time , with reasonable flexibility when personal circumstances require it. Must be based in the United States. Remote hiring is not available in Montana, Hawaii, Alaska, or Washington, DC. Benefits: Competitive compensation package with a built-in bonus and equity program. Comprehensive benefits for employees and their dependents. Flexible paid time off (PTO). 15 company holidays. 12 weeks of paid parental leave. 401(k) matching. Education stipend to support ongoing learning and professional development. Remote work stipend. A transparent, collaborative work environment that emphasizes communication, learning, and shared understanding of company priorities. A remote-first working model that supports employees working from most locations in the United States, subject to location restrictions.
