GEMS offers 15 scholarships each year and 42 months of funding. The Malaysia stipend is RM2,950 per month for 33–36 months; an Australia mobility period can receive RM8,500 per month for up to nine months, while Indonesia or IIT Bombay mobility uses the Malaysia stipend rate. The award includes a RM9,000 subsidy toward visa, insurance and travel costs and a 100% tuition fee waiver for up to four years full-time equivalent. General registration and amenities fees remain payable. School-level support for conference attendance or fieldwork may also be available.
Eligibility requirements
Open to Malaysian and international applicants for full-time PhD study. Applicants must meet Monash academic and English requirements and hold at least First Class Honours (H1) or an accepted equivalent. Applicants choose one listed GEMS research topic and submit a relevant research proposal. Awardees may be required to contribute up to 240 hours per year to academic or research support.
