The Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship is available to new graduate research students enrolling at Monash Malaysia and current graduate research students in their first year. Each award includes a full tuition-fee waiver and a MYR2,950 monthly stipend at the 2026 rate. Support runs for up to two years full-time equivalent for a research master's degree and up to three years and six months for a doctoral degree, ending earlier if the thesis is submitted. Monash runs four scholarship rounds in 2026; the remaining Round 4 requires the HDR offer letter by 1 October 2026. New applicants select the scholarship while applying for graduate research admission; current first-year students use the university's separate internal form.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must hold at least First Class Honours (H1) or a Monash-recognised equivalent, meet the relevant graduate research admission and English-language requirements, and be enrolled or have an offer from Monash University Malaysia. Selection considers academic record, research output and prior research experience. Applicants must not already have completed a graduate research master's or doctoral degree at the same course level. External scholarship holders need prior approval from the Monash scholarship office. Recipients contribute up to 240 hours per year in academic and/or research support activities.
