The Dutch Working Holiday Programme/Scheme offers eligible young adults from partner countries a temporary cultural-exchange residence permit allowing occasional work while staying in the Netherlands.

The permit is valid for up to one year and is intended primarily for cultural exchange. Eligible participants may perform occasional work to support their stay, but may not work the whole year for the same employer or work as self-employed persons. Australia, Canada and New Zealand nationals can apply directly without an MVV. The 2026 Japan cap was reached on 7 April 2026; IND states the South Korea cap had not yet been reached at its 19 August 2026 update. Other capped partner-country routes remain subject to their annual availability and process.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be aged 18 through 30 and hold a passport/nationality from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, Uruguay or South Korea, subject to the route-specific annual cap and process. Applicants must meet the general IND requirements and must not have previously used the relevant Dutch Working Holiday permit where prohibited by the scheme rules.
