Te Huarau supports eligible people training to become teachers in New Zealand. The scholarship pays approved course fees and provides an allowance of NZD 10,000 over the period of study, for up to four years. Recipients have a post-study bonding requirement and should read the official scholarship terms before applying.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens, permanent residents or residents and must be enrolled in, have applied for, or be planning to enrol in an approved initial teacher education programme. Applicants cannot already hold a TeachNZ scholarship, already be a registered teacher or have completed initial teacher education, or be participating in or considering the School Onsite Training Programme.
