Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal MEP and Facilities Engineer based in the United States. This senior engineering role offers the opportunity to shape the design, construction, and performance of complex facilities supporting highly regulated cultivation, manufacturing, laboratory, and distribution operations. You will provide technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure, HVAC systems, building automation, and environmental controls. Your expertise will help create reliable, energy-efficient environments where temperature, humidity, airflow, ventilation, and CO₂ management are critical to operational success. Working closely with Operations, Facilities, Construction, Quality, and Compliance teams, you will lead capital projects, assess facility infrastructure, and coordinate engineering partners across domestic and international locations. The position combines strategic engineering oversight with practical problem-solving, commissioning support, and continuous facility improvement. This is a full-time, remote and field-based opportunity for an experienced professional located near a major airport, with travel required up to 60% of the time.
Lead facility design, construction, commissioning, renovation, and infrastructure improvement projects across cultivation, manufacturing, laboratory, and distribution facilities. Provide technical expertise in HVAC, MEP infrastructure, building automation systems (BAS), environmental controls, and facility utilities. Design, evaluate, and optimize controlled-environment facilities, including systems for temperature, humidity, airflow, ventilation, and CO₂ management. Coordinate engineering consultants, contractors, equipment vendors, and cross-functional project teams to ensure projects meet technical, operational, schedule, and quality requirements. Conduct facility assessments and technical due diligence to support acquisitions, expansions, capital investments, and infrastructure modernization. Review existing facility systems, utility capacity, engineering designs, and infrastructure constraints to identify risks and recommend practical improvements. Partner with Operations, Facilities, Quality, and Compliance teams to troubleshoot technical issues and implement sustainable, reliable solutions. Support facility readiness and engineering compliance for regulated environments operating under GACP, GMP, and EU-GMP requirements. Promote compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable facility safety standards throughout design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing operations. Drive continuous improvement in facility performance, system reliability, operational efficiency, and engineering standards across the facility portfolio. Support domestic and international projects, coordinating with stakeholders across multiple locations and disciplines. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline. At least 10 years of experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, agricultural, pharmaceutical, food production, cannabis, or other regulated facilities. Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, MEP infrastructure, environmental controls, and facility utilities. Demonstrated experience managing facility design, construction, renovation, commissioning, or capital improvement projects. Proven ability to coordinate engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders throughout complex projects. Working knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), facility controls, and environmental monitoring systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex engineering requirements into practical operational solutions. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, facility safety requirements, and safe engineering and construction practices. Excellent communication, collaboration, and project coordination skills, including the ability to work effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineer (PE) license; experience in cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, extraction, or processing; and familiarity with controlled-environment agriculture, greenhouse operations, or indoor cultivation systems. Additional preferred experience includes laboratory, clean-room, pharmaceutical, or other regulated production environments; commissioning, qualification, validation, and facility startup; and working knowledge of GACP, GMP, and EU-GMP requirements. Experience managing engineering consultants and complex design teams, along with international facility engineering exposure, particularly in Canadian or European operations, is an advantage. Ability to work remotely and in the field, with convenient access to a major airport and willingness to travel up to 60% of the time. Benefits: Salary: Annual compensation range of $131,000–$159,000 USD. Career development: Opportunities for professional growth and advancement within a high-growth organization. Competitive compensation: Competitive pay and benefits, with eligibility and specific offerings varying by state and role type. Paid time off: Generous paid time off (PTO). Parental support: Parental leave benefits. Retirement savings: 401(k) retirement plan. Insurance coverage: Life and disability insurance. Referral bonuses: Employee referral bonus opportunities. Product discounts: Access to eligible product discounts. Community involvement: Opportunities to participate in community outreach and social responsibility initiatives. Flexible work arrangement: Remote and field-based work, with travel required up to 60% and proximity to a major airport expected. Meaningful technical impact: The opportunity to influence engineering standards, facility performance, and infrastructure strategy across a diverse portfolio of specialized facilities.
