The Public Service Commission has commenced the process of reviewing the Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP) Policy with a view to accommodating graduates from diploma programmes and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. This was announced today by the Commission Chairperson, Francis Meja, during a courtesy call on the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, at the NSSF Building on 4th August 2026.
“The focus should now shift to what happens during and after the PSIP programme. A revamped programme will bring the private sector on board, provide entrepreneurship training, and introduce a savings scheme for interns,” said Mr. Meja.
He noted that the revamped PSIP programme will ensure interns receive well-rounded mentorship to support a smooth transition into employment or entrepreneurship upon completion of the one-year internship.
On his part, Hon. Oparanya called for a consolidated internship programme with a comprehensive system for tracking interns’ progress and individual performance.
“We all serve the same government. The internship programme should be centralised to ensure quality control and standardisation. All interns should receive the same benefits across the board,” said Hon. Oparanya.
The consultative meeting also explored other areas of collaboration, including bringing on board development partners to support the Public Service Internship Programme.
Also present were the PSC Deputy Commission Secretary Jethro Mosoti and Director Simon Mwangi.
