Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Quality Engineer, QA based in the United States. As a Quality Engineer, QA, you will establish and lead the quality assurance strategy for a growing, AI-powered SaaS platform designed to help frontline workers access essential government benefits. You will take ownership of automated testing, integration quality, and release readiness across a complex web application and its connected services. Working closely with engineers and customer-facing teams, you will identify critical risks, build reliable test frameworks, and ensure every release meets clear quality standards. You will also evaluate AI-powered chat features and test systems operating in sensitive, regulated environments. This hands-on senior role offers significant autonomy, with the freedom to define testing priorities, select tools, and influence engineering practices. Your work will directly support families in accessing and maintaining the benefits they are eligible for.
You will own quality assurance from strategy through release approval, embedding testing into development workflows and providing evidence-based recommendations on product readiness. Your responsibilities will include: Test Strategy and Automation: Identify the areas of the product most likely to fail and prioritize testing accordingly. Design and maintain end-to-end user journeys, smoke tests for every build, and integration tests that engineers can review and maintain. Testing Tools and CI/CD Integration: Select appropriate testing tools and implement automated test execution through GitHub Actions, ensuring testing is integrated into continuous integration workflows. Release Readiness and Risk Assessment: Provide a clear readiness assessment before each release, documenting passed and failed tests, untested areas, and outstanding risks. Communicate findings in accessible language and challenge release deadlines when evidence indicates unacceptable risk. Quality Integration Across Teams: Work directly with customer-facing and engineering teams to test features during development. Adjust priorities as workloads change, establish a shared definition of done, and coach engineers on testing their own work. Web Application and Cross-Browser Testing: Perform functional, regression, and accessibility testing across browsers and devices. Verify customer-specific configurations and ensure consistent behavior across supported environments. API and Integration Testing: Test APIs, asynchronous service interactions, and integrations with external systems. Develop contract tests and verify that the application handles slow, unavailable, or incorrect responses from dependencies appropriately. AI Feature Evaluation: Build evaluation suites for chatbots and AI assistants using curated reference datasets. Rerun evaluations when prompts or models change, test safety guardrails, and use AI tools to create, maintain, and troubleshoot tests. Test Data and Security: Create realistic test data for complex systems while complying with strict access controls and data-protection requirements. Help identify and remediate security vulnerabilities in the application and its infrastructure. Regulatory and Business-Rule Validation: Translate complex policies and business rules into test scenarios, identifying gaps and validating expected behavior as requirements evolve, including changes associated with federal Medicaid rules taking effect on January 1, 2027. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced quality or software engineer who can independently establish a testing practice, write maintainable automation, and make sound decisions about product risk. You should be comfortable operating across multiple teams without a predefined testing backlog and communicating technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. At least five years of experience in quality assurance, software testing, or software engineering. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing automated tests that you personally developed, integrated into continuous integration, and maintained collaboratively with other engineers. Experience establishing or significantly improving a testing practice, including selecting tools, writing initial test suites, integrating automation into CI, and identifying areas that remain untested. Strong test automation programming skills in Python or TypeScript. Experience testing APIs, browser-based applications, and software delivery pipelines, including headless browser testing and integration tests involving failing or unreliable dependencies. Ability to understand complex business rules or policy requirements, identify ambiguities, and translate them into effective test scenarios. Experience serving as the primary or sole quality specialist across multiple teams, independently setting priorities and determining where testing effort is most valuable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and make evidence-based release recommendations. Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to explain test results and technical risks to engineers and non-technical stakeholders. Confidence in constructively challenging deadlines and release decisions when quality or reliability concerns warrant further investigation. Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with engineers and customer-facing teams. Benefits: Fully remote position open to candidates based in the United States. Full-time, permanent employment, approximately 40 hours per week. Live collaboration with the team during US business hours. Competitive compensation in USD, with candidates invited to share their salary expectations during the initial conversation. Significant ownership over testing strategy, automation architecture, quality standards, and release-readiness decisions. Support from an engineering buddy to help with onboarding and setup. Meaningful work helping families access and retain the government benefits for which they qualify.
