Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Retention Strategist, Lifecycle Marketing based in the United States. As a Retention Strategist, you will develop and execute data-driven lifecycle marketing strategies that help ecommerce brands strengthen customer relationships, increase repeat purchases, and drive sustainable revenue growth. You will oversee the end-to-end management of email, SMS, loyalty, referral, and other customer retention programs, translating customer insights into personalized, high-performing campaigns. Working closely with clients in a fast-paced, performance-driven agency environment, you will own campaign strategy, content development, automation, testing, and reporting. You will continuously analyze customer behavior and campaign performance to identify opportunities for improving engagement, conversion, and long-term loyalty. This role combines strategic thinking, analytical expertise, and hands-on execution to deliver measurable business results. It also offers the opportunity to deepen your lifecycle marketing expertise while collaborating with a growth-oriented team that values innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.

Own end-to-end lifecycle marketing programs: Develop, manage, and optimize email, SMS, referral, rewards, and other retention and acquisition initiatives for ecommerce clients, ensuring alignment with their business objectives and growth strategies. Develop lifecycle marketing strategies: Build comprehensive channel strategies and marketing calendars that support customer acquisition, engagement, repeat purchases, retention, and long-term brand loyalty. Execute email and SMS campaigns: Oversee campaign planning, copywriting, content development, production, deployment, and performance tracking. Ensure campaigns are delivered accurately, on schedule, and in accordance with established best practices. Build marketing automation and customer journeys: Design and optimize automated workflows, triggered campaigns, personalized messaging, dynamic content, and omnichannel customer experiences that deliver relevant communications at every stage of the customer lifecycle. Leverage customer data and segmentation: Use customer profiles, purchase histories, engagement patterns, and behavioral data to develop targeted segments and personalized campaigns that improve relevance, conversion, and retention. Optimize customer journeys: Evaluate customer touchpoints to identify friction, engagement gaps, and opportunities to improve the overall experience, strengthen loyalty, and increase customer lifetime value. Drive experimentation and continuous improvement: Develop and execute A/B tests across campaign content, creative, timing, segmentation, and messaging. Analyze results, draw actionable conclusions, and implement improvements based on measurable performance. Monitor and analyze performance: Track key performance indicators, customer behavior, engagement, and online trends. Conduct competitive analysis and benchmarking to identify opportunities and inform strategic recommendations. Deliver client reporting and insights: Prepare performance reports that communicate campaign results, key learnings, emerging trends, and actionable recommendations. Present findings clearly and connect marketing performance to broader business outcomes. Manage client relationships: Serve as a trusted strategic partner to client stakeholders, providing guidance, presenting recommendations, navigating challenging conversations, and ensuring lifecycle marketing initiatives support client priorities. Maintain channel best practices: Apply expertise in email deliverability, segmentation, copywriting, design, personalization, automation, and campaign measurement. Identify innovative approaches to improve program effectiveness and operational efficiency. Collaborate across marketing disciplines: Work with complementary paid media and conversion rate optimization (CRO) initiatives to create a cohesive customer acquisition and retention strategy. Manage multiple projects effectively: Coordinate deliverables, deadlines, and competing priorities across client accounts while maintaining high standards of quality, organization, and accountability. Requirements: Professional experience: At least 4 years of experience in email marketing strategy, campaign production, and end-to-end campaign management. Client management experience: Demonstrated experience managing enterprise-level clients in an agency, client services, or account leadership environment. Klaviyo expertise: Hands-on experience with Klaviyo is essential, including campaign execution, segmentation, automation, and performance optimization. SMS marketing knowledge: Experience developing and managing SMS marketing campaigns and integrating SMS into broader lifecycle marketing strategies. Email marketing expertise: Strong understanding of email marketing best practices, including deliverability, segmentation, copywriting, creative and design approaches, personalization, triggered campaigns, and automation. Analytical and strategic capabilities: Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret performance data, evaluate customer behavior, identify trends, and translate insights into actionable optimization strategies. Testing and optimization: Practical experience designing A/B tests, measuring results, and applying data-driven learnings to improve campaign performance and customer engagement. Technical knowledge: Working knowledge of HTML and CSS for email coding, with the ability to understand and troubleshoot common email production requirements. Cross-channel marketing understanding: Familiarity with the relationship between retention marketing, paid media, and conversion rate optimization, and how these disciplines contribute to overall ecommerce performance. Customer-centric mindset: Ability to develop relevant, personalized customer experiences that strengthen relationships, encourage repeat purchases, and improve customer loyalty. Client communication and presentation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation abilities, and confidence in building client relationships and navigating difficult conversations constructively. Organization and project management: Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple client accounts, projects, and deadlines simultaneously. Ownership and initiative: A proactive, self-directed approach, with a strong sense of accountability and the ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and execute solutions independently. Creativity and adaptability: An innovative, open-minded attitude and a willingness to experiment, learn, and adapt in a fast-paced, performance-focused agency environment. Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients while contributing to a supportive, results-oriented team culture. Benefits: Competitive annual salary: $75,000–$85,000 USD. Fully remote work: Work remotely from anywhere in the United States. Career development: Access to structured learning and development opportunities, with a clear pathway for professional growth. Collaborative remote culture: Join a connected, collaborative team that values communication, shared learning, and teamwork. High-performance environment: Work alongside marketing professionals who are passionate about innovation, experimentation, and measurable results.
