Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Revenue Accountant based in the United States. The Revenue Accountant will serve as a technical accounting expert, overseeing complex revenue recognition processes across diverse recorded music revenue streams. This role combines advanced accounting expertise, financial data analytics, and systems optimization to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with ASC 606. You will manage high-volume transactions spanning digital streaming, licensing, royalties, physical products, and international distributions. Working closely with finance leaders, technology teams, and commercial stakeholders, you will transform complex operational data into actionable financial insights. You will also drive automation initiatives, strengthen internal controls, and improve the efficiency of monthly and quarterly closing processes. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives at the intersection of technical accounting, digital media, and financial technology.

Lead technical accounting, revenue accrual modeling, and reconciliations across recorded music revenue streams, including digital streaming platforms, downloads, statutory royalties, physical product sales, synchronization licensing, master licensing, and international affiliate distributions. Develop and maintain revenue recognition schedules in accordance with ASC 606, including monthly revenue accruals, deferred revenue tracking, and automated reversals based on consumption data and actual cash settlements. Analyze, cleanse, and reconcile revenue reporting datasets from multiple digital service providers, using tools such as SAP Analysis for Office and AI-enabled analytics solutions to ensure data accuracy and completeness. Reconcile operational reporting from source systems to the general ledger, connecting consumption metrics such as streams, downloads, play counts, and tiered rates with financial transactions to identify anomalies, missing catalog codes, underreported royalties, and system discrepancies. Conduct detailed month-over-month and quarter-over-quarter variance analyses, identify key revenue drivers, and present findings and recommendations to label finance leadership. Serve as the business lead for revenue accounting systems optimization across SAP ECC/S/4HANA, BlackLine, and proprietary music revenue subledger platforms. Design, test, and implement automated reporting solutions that reduce manual journal entries, strengthen financial controls, improve reporting accuracy, and accelerate month-end close activities. Oversee monthly and quarterly revenue close deliverables, including reviewing high-volume journal entries, complex accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations. Review work performed by staff accountants and offshore shared services teams, including direct-to-consumer sales reconciliations, digital platform settlement matching, and clearing account analyses. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, provide structured feedback, and deliver technical guidance and training to accounting team members and shared services partners. Investigate and resolve long-standing balances in revenue clearing, suspense, and partner withholding accounts, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment and timely resolution. Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 (SOX 404), including segregation of duties, automated validation controls, and documentation of data lineage. Act as the primary revenue accounting liaison for internal and external auditors, preparing audit schedules, account roll-forwards, sample testing documentation, and technical accounting memoranda. Collaborate with label finance executives, commercial revenue operations, legal and business affairs, IT and data engineering teams, and corporate royalty functions to align accounting treatments with evolving contractual arrangements and business requirements. Identify opportunities to improve data quality, streamline accounting workflows, strengthen revenue assurance, and implement scalable financial reporting solutions. A master's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or additional coursework in financial data analytics or information systems, is a significant advantage. Audit management: Experience supporting internal and external audits, preparing audit documentation, explaining accounting treatments, and responding to auditor inquiries. Leadership and review: Demonstrated ability to oversee and review work completed by distributed, hybrid, or offshore accounting teams while maintaining consistent quality and compliance standards. Data analysis and problem-solving: Strong ability to investigate complex data discrepancies, identify root causes, interpret large datasets, and translate findings into clear financial conclusions and executive-level summaries.
