ABOUT FOCUSED ENERGY

Full job description

ABOUT FOCUSED ENERGY Focused Energy is building the future of clean energy through laser-driven inertial fusion. Backed by our $240M Series A — the largest fully secured Series A in the global fusion industry — we are scaling rapidly across multiple geographies. Based in Germany and the US, we have brought together the top scientific and engineering minds using proven technologies to unlock fusion power at commercial scale. Focused Energy is working to realize game-changing scientific innovation that promises to deliver a clean, sustainable and abundant source of power globally. YOUR ROLE As our Senior Accounting Manager, you will own the technical accounting, close, and consolidation processes across Focused Energy's German and US entities. You will bring together IFRS, US GAAP, and German GAAP requirements to deliver reliable financial results as our international business grows. You will have broad ownership of accounting judgments, reconciliations, and reporting quality. You will combine hands-on delivery with process improvement, building the controls, documentation, and automation that help Finance and the wider business trust the numbers. WHAT YOU'LL DO • Own accounting across our international entities, applying IFRS, US GAAP, and German GAAP to complex accounting questions and making well-supported decisions within your remit. • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, owning close calendars, account reconciliations, intercompany accounting, eliminations, and consolidation across Germany and the US. • Deliver accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting, explaining material movements and giving Finance leadership clear insight into the results. • Build and strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation, keeping records complete, consistent, and audit-ready as the business scales. • Make our accounting systems work reliably together, improving data flows and reconciliations across NetSuite, NetAssets, Moss, and Ramp and resolving issues before they affect the close. • Turn recurring accounting work into scalable processes, introducing automation and practical tools that reduce manual effort and improve accuracy. • Work directly with Finance and business stakeholders, communicating accounting decisions clearly, surfacing risks early, and resolving issues independently while escalating company-wide policy and audit-strategy decisions appropriately. WHO YOU ARE

  • 7+ years of professional accounting experience, including significant hands-on ownership of accounting processes in an international, multi-entity environment.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a comparable professional qualification.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge across German GAAP, IFRS, and US GAAP.
  • Proven experience owning monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including reconciliations, intercompany accounting, consolidation, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to make sound accounting judgments independently and distinguish between entity-level decisions and matters requiring company-wide escalation.
  • Experience designing, documenting, and improving accounting workflows, internal controls, and audit-ready records.
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP such as Oracle NetSuite, or a comparable system; willingness to work deeply in finance-system data flows.
  • Fluent in English and German, with the ability to collaborate confidently across Germany and the U.S.
  • A hands-on, detail-oriented, and proactive working style, with the resilience to operate effectively in a changing startup environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical accounting topics to non-finance stakeholders. WHAT WE OFFER
