Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Accounting Supervisor (PST or MST) based in the United States. The Senior Accounting Supervisor will lead accounting operations across multiple projects within a growing, mission-driven organization focused on workforce development and community impact. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role combines hands-on financial oversight, team leadership, and strategic fiscal management in a fully remote environment. You will oversee project invoicing, financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, payroll analytics, and audit coordination while ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable funding requirements. Working closely with senior leadership, project teams, and external stakeholders, you will translate financial data into actionable insights that support informed decisions and effective resource allocation. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who excels at improving processes, managing competing priorities, and developing a high-performing team. Candidates must reside in the Mountain or Pacific time zone and be comfortable working in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment.

Supervise, mentor, and train accounting team members, allocate workloads effectively, and ensure departmental deliverables meet established deadlines. Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements prepared by team members, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Lead day-to-day accounting activities across multiple projects, including financial planning, fund management, reporting, and fiscal oversight. Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets, financial forecasts, and working capital requirements to support sound financial management. Oversee project invoicing, monthly advance requests, supporting documentation, and financial performance reporting to facilitate timely payments. Coordinate with Workforce Boards, project teams, Executive Directors, customers, and senior leadership to address financial matters and resolve billing or reporting issues. Ensure projects meet financial obligations efficiently and in accordance with applicable Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) guidelines, government funding requirements, and organizational policies. Establish and monitor project-specific accounting procedures to support contractual compliance and consistent financial reporting. Oversee employee and participant expense processing, vendor invoices, and program payroll analytics. Lead month-end closing activities, including the review of balance sheet reconciliations and analysis of profit-and-loss reports. Coordinate annual audit deliverables and act as the primary contact for periodic program audits and related information requests. Identify and implement process improvements, streamlined workflows, and internal controls to increase efficiency, accuracy, and accountability. Provide financial insights and performance updates to executive leadership, translating complex accounting information into clear, practical recommendations. Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of financial records while ensuring adherence to relevant policies, procedures, and reporting standards. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field. At least 7 years of accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role. Advanced knowledge of GAAP and demonstrated ability to review complex balance sheet reconciliations, financial statements, and profit-and-loss reports. Experience overseeing budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting across multiple projects or funding streams; familiarity with WIOA programs or government contracting is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, with experience using QuickBooks, Adaptive Workday, and Expensify considered an advantage. Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and develop accounting professionals while maintaining a collaborative and accountable team environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify discrepancies, evaluate financial performance, and implement effective solutions. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while meeting strict month-end and reporting deadlines. High ethical standards, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with strict confidentiality. Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote environment with colleagues and stakeholders at different organizational levels. Current residence in the Mountain Standard Time (MST) or Pacific Standard Time (PST) time zone is required. Willingness to undertake minimal travel to meet with project teams and Workforce Board representatives as needed. Benefits: Annual salary: $85,000–$90,000 USD, depending on experience. Full-time, remote work arrangement for candidates located in the Mountain or Pacific time zone. Opportunities for professional development and career advancement. Opportunity to lead accounting operations across multiple projects and contribute to meaningful workforce development initiatives. Collaborative, mission-driven work environment focused on measurable community impact.
