Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer | MEP based in Brazil . Join a mission-driven technology team building innovative solutions that make workplace wellbeing more accessible worldwide. In this senior backend engineering role, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable services that power the small and medium-sized business (SMB) customer acquisition journey. You will work with modern technologies, including Kotlin, Go, Kafka, and cloud-native infrastructure, to build resilient, high-performance distributed systems. Collaborating closely with Product, Marketing, Sales, and engineering teams, you will transform business requirements into reliable technical solutions. Your work will help optimize customer conversion, strengthen integrations, and improve the overall acquisition experience. You will contribute to architectural decisions, engineering best practices, and continuous improvements across a distributed, collaborative environment. This is an opportunity to take ownership of critical backend services while supporting a global mission focused on health and wellbeing.

Design, develop, deploy, and maintain critical backend services supporting the SMB customer acquisition funnel, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability. Build and evolve event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging workflows using Kafka, with a focus on data consistency, idempotency, fault tolerance, and resilience. Develop, maintain, and optimize integrations with enterprise platforms, including Salesforce, HubSpot, and Segment, ensuring reliable data exchange across business systems. Establish and improve observability practices using Datadog and OpenTelemetry, defining service-level objectives (SLOs), monitoring systems, and alerts to identify and resolve issues proactively. Partner with Product, Marketing, and Sales stakeholders to translate business objectives into effective technical solutions, communicate trade-offs, and deliver measurable business outcomes. Collaborate with other engineering teams to evolve system architecture, conduct thorough code reviews, share technical knowledge, and mentor colleagues. Use AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, accelerate delivery, strengthen test coverage, and maintain clear technical documentation. Take end-to-end ownership of services, from technical design and implementation to deployment, production monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Requirements Professional experience designing, building, and operating backend applications and distributed systems in production environments. Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin and Go, or substantial professional experience with modern Java and a willingness to work primarily with Kotlin and Go. Practical knowledge of event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, Kafka or equivalent message brokers, and resilient API design. Experience building and operating containerized microservices using Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS. Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, Redis, and DynamoDB, with experience in data modeling and database management. Familiarity with enterprise integrations and business-critical systems, ideally involving Salesforce, HubSpot, Segment, or comparable platforms. Experience implementing observability and reliability practices, including monitoring, distributed tracing, service-level objectives, and alerting. Interest in using AI coding assistants and modern development tools to improve software quality, development efficiency, and team workflows. Strong problem-solving skills, systems thinking, and the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges. Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with fluency in Portuguese for daily team interactions and professional working proficiency in English for cross-team communication and documentation. A proactive, quality-focused mindset and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a distributed engineering team.
