Join a member-focused financial institution committed to responsible lending, financial well-being, and exceptional service. As a Senior Commercial Underwriter, you will evaluate complex commercial credit applications, assess borrower financial strength, and make informed lending recommendations that support a healthy commercial loan portfolio. You will analyze commercial real estate, commercial and industrial (C&I), and construction transactions while ensuring compliance with established credit policies and underwriting standards. In this senior role, you will have opportunities to mentor colleagues, handle sophisticated transactions, and influence credit risk decisions. Flexible working arrangements, including remote work, are available.

As a Senior Commercial Underwriter, you will oversee complex credit assessments, maintain underwriting quality, and collaborate with internal teams to support responsible commercial lending and effective portfolio management. Review and analyze commercial loan applications and supporting documentation, including leases, rent rolls, tax returns, financial statements, credit reports, appraisals, and environmental reports. Evaluate market conditions, borrower creditworthiness, property performance, financial risks, and other relevant factors to make sound lending recommendations in accordance with established policies and procedures. Prepare and analyze financial statement and tax return spreads using standardized templates to assess borrowers' financial strength and repayment capacity. Underwrite high-volume and complex transactions, including commercial and industrial (C&I) loans, owner-occupied commercial real estate, and construction financing. Prepare comprehensive Credit Approval Memos (CAMs) for review by senior management and credit committees, covering property occupancy, cash flow, market outlook, guarantor strength, identified risks, and mitigating factors. Recommend appropriate credit risk ratings, loan structures, and restructuring strategies based on underwriting findings. Manage assigned loan files throughout the credit pipeline, maintain accurate status updates, and ensure decisions and closings are completed within expected timeframes. Collaborate with legal counsel, relationship managers, commercial operations specialists, lending management, members, and prospective members to resolve issues and maintain high service standards. Support commercial capital markets activities by preparing documentation and responding to participant requests related to loan sales. Maintain complete underwriting files and review legal loan documentation for accuracy and compliance with internal policies and procedures. Respond to internal and external audit requests concerning commercial lending activities, underwriting practices, and portfolio documentation. Support portfolio management and workout teams with annual reviews, credit assessments, workout evaluations, and restructuring proposals. Mentor and coach fellow underwriters and team members, sharing technical knowledge and promoting consistent underwriting practices. Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of commercial lending policies, underwriting guidelines, and procedures to maintain compliance and manage risk effectively. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial credit professional with strong financial analysis capabilities, sound risk judgment, and the ability to manage complex lending transactions while collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. Between five and nine years of relevant professional experience. Strong analytical skills and experience evaluating owner-occupied commercial real estate transactions and commercial and industrial (C&I) lending opportunities. Demonstrated ability to review financial statements, tax returns, leases, rent rolls, credit reports, appraisals, and other supporting credit documentation. Experience assessing borrower creditworthiness, repayment capacity, property cash flow, guarantor strength, market conditions, and transaction-specific risks. Ability to prepare detailed credit analyses, financial spreads, and comprehensive credit approval memoranda. Sound judgment in recommending credit decisions, risk ratings, loan structures, and appropriate risk mitigation strategies. Strong understanding of commercial lending policies, underwriting standards, loan documentation, and credit risk management practices. Ability to manage multiple loan files, prioritize competing deadlines, and ensure timely underwriting decisions and closings. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with lending teams, legal counsel, management, and members. Attention to detail and a commitment to accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and consistent underwriting quality. Ability to mentor colleagues, support continuous improvement, and contribute to policy and procedure development. Willingness to work in a flexible arrangement, including remotely, depending on the agreed working setup. Benefits: Estimated annual salary ranging from $106,391 to $127,669. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance. Life and disability insurance. Voluntary benefit programs. 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching contributions. Annual performance-based bonus opportunities. Tuition reimbursement. Wellness programs and reimbursement opportunities. Flexible work arrangements, including remote work options.
