Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Counsel, Commercial based in the United States. The Senior Counsel, Commercial will serve as a trusted legal partner to revenue, product, marketing, and operations teams, helping the business navigate complex commercial opportunities. This role offers broad ownership of commercial legal matters, from drafting and negotiating sophisticated agreements to advising senior leaders on strategic business decisions. You will provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance that balances risk management with innovation, commercial agility, and growth. Working across digital media, technology, advertising, sponsorships, and emerging revenue streams, you will help shape products, partnerships, and go-to-market initiatives. You will also improve legal workflows, strengthen contract processes, and introduce automation and AI-enabled tools to increase efficiency. The position requires an independent, solutions-focused attorney who can manage competing priorities and translate complex legal issues into clear recommendations. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a collaborative legal team and a fast-moving, remote-friendly environment.
Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including advertising sales, sponsorships, events, customer subscriptions, content licensing, vendor contracts, technology agreements, and strategic partnerships. Manage commercial legal intake and workflows, prioritizing requests, coordinating assignments, and improving contract playbooks, templates, and processes. Develop and implement self-service resources, automation, and AI-enabled tools to streamline routine legal work and manage increasing contract volumes efficiently. Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice that supports business objectives while identifying and managing legal and operational risks. Advise product, sales, marketing, and revenue teams on new products and features, advertising and sponsorship initiatives, sales programs, and emerging business opportunities. Identify legal considerations across privacy, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, data use, and operational matters. Provide privacy and data-use guidance, including support for data processing agreements, privacy policy updates, and related business questions, while identifying situations that require specialized legal support. Handle routine commercial disputes and business issues, escalating significant or high-risk matters when appropriate. Scope and manage external legal counsel efficiently, ensuring their advice is translated into clear, actionable recommendations for internal stakeholders. Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting digital media, technology, advertising, and commercial operations. Collaborate with colleagues across the legal team and other departments on strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and evolving business needs. Requirements: At least 6 years of relevant legal experience, including substantial in-house commercial legal experience; law firm experience is an advantage. Demonstrated experience advising on product, sales, marketing, advertising, sponsorships, and commercial transactions, with digital media experience strongly preferred. Excellent contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills, including a proven ability to independently manage sophisticated commercial agreements from beginning to end. Strong legal issue-spotting skills and the ability to assess business risks beyond the immediate terms of a contract. Sound commercial judgment and a pragmatic approach to risk, balancing appropriate legal protections with business agility and avoiding unnecessarily complex solutions. Proven ability to operate independently, take ownership of matters, and advise senior business leaders with confidence and sound judgment. Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely. A collaborative, solution-oriented mindset and the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment. Comfort using AI-enabled tools and workflows, with a willingness to develop AI literacy and apply emerging technologies responsibly to improve productivity, creativity, and efficiency. Benefits: Annual starting salary range of $175,000–$205,000 USD , depending on location, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. Remote-optional work arrangement, with salary eligibility adjusted according to location. 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching contributions. Comprehensive medical insurance options, including PPO and high-deductible health plans through the Blue Cross Blue Shield network. Employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA) for eligible high-deductible health plan participants. Dental and vision coverage. Twelve weeks of paid leave for primary caregivers. Generous vacation policy and paid holidays. One mental health day per quarter. Annual learning and development stipend. Monthly work-from-home stipend of $100.
