About Woven by Toyota
Full job description
About Woven by Toyota Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.
Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.
=========================================================================
The Map Solutions team provides AD/ADAS development with reliable access to high-quality map and geospatial data, which feeds machine learning model training, simulation, and system evaluation. We acquire, process, and maintain map data, and we build the tooling that helps teams across the company use a wide range of spatial datasets. You will join our Map Sourcing & Compilation sub-team, which prepares the map data used to develop and evaluate our next-generation driving system as it expands to urban roads.
We are looking for a senior engineer with deep expertise in map data: vendor formats, map specifications, and the fine details that determine whether a map is suitable for driving. You will lead our in-house map releases from vendor data to a verified release. You will also help grow the team’s in-house expertise as this work scales. If you enjoy taking end-to-end ownership of a pipeline end to end, and you care as much about how data is checked as how it is built, we would love to hear from you.
Lead in-house map releases for onboard (in-vehicle) development end to end: specification, conversion, verification, and delivery Design and maintain in-house map specifications, along with the format conversion and post-processing pipelines that turn vendor data into them Build and run quality verification that ensures data integrity, and define the checks and metrics each release must pass Deliver ground-truth maps for offboard (non-vehicle) development, including ML labeling, simulation, and system evaluation Manage licenses for data and software used in in-house development, such as data usage agreements, to ensure compliant use Manage and evaluate vendor data coverage and quality against our standards Extend the pipeline to urban roads and to new map types, such as navigation and ADAS maps, for our next-generation system Document processes and mentor teammates so map data knowledge is shared across the team
5+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering Experience designing and running conversion or processing pipelines for large datasets Proficiency in at least one of Python, Rust, Go, or C++ Hands-on experience with Agile development and AI-assisted development (e.g., using AI coding tools) Business-level English Bachelor’s degree in computer science, geomatics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
3+ years of hands-on experience with HD maps, ADAS maps, or navigation maps in automotive or autonomous driving Experience with geospatial tools and databases, such as PostGIS/SQL, GDAL/OGR, Shapely, or GeoPandas Experience defining map specifications or data schemas, such as NDS, OpenDRIVE, Lanelet2, or vendor-specific formats Experience preparing ground-truth maps for ML labeling, simulation, or system evaluation Experience with Japanese map data, or Japanese language skills Familiarity with geospatial data quality standards and metrics, such as ISO 19157 A track record of leading cross-functional work across teams and time zones, and of mentoring less experienced engineers / team members Ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate trade-offs between data quality, coverage, cost, and schedule
