Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst (Clinical Solutions) based in Canada. We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst to support financial planning, project budget management, and accounting operations within a clinical research environment. In this role, you will serve as a strategic financial partner to project teams, helping ensure accurate financial reporting, effective budget oversight, and sound revenue recognition throughout the clinical trial lifecycle. You will combine project financial analysis with general ledger accounting and month-end closing responsibilities. Working closely with operational leaders and finance professionals, you will analyze financial performance, identify budget variances, and support contract and change order reviews. You will also contribute to improving financial processes, strengthening internal controls, and enhancing reporting accuracy. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for a finance professional who enjoys cross-functional collaboration, complex financial analysis, and making a measurable impact on business performance.
Provide comprehensive financial support to project teams throughout the clinical trial lifecycle, including project budgeting, financial monitoring, forecasting, and performance analysis. Prepare monthly invoicing worksheets that serve as the foundation for client invoicing and revenue recognition, ensuring financial information is accurate and complete. Conduct variance analyses comparing forecasted revenue with actual results to identify discrepancies, scope changes, emerging risks, and opportunities for corrective action. Review work orders, project budgets, and change order budgets against actual project activities to identify out-of-scope work and potential financial impacts. Perform monthly Earned Value Analysis (EVA) in collaboration with Project Directors and Project Managers to assess project performance, financial progress, and budget alignment. Participate in monthly project review meetings as needed, providing financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decisions. Assist the Executive Director of Operational Finance with preparing and reviewing contractual documentation, including statements of work and change orders. Collaborate with the Company Accountant to support general ledger activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and the timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes. Ensure monthly financial information is reported accurately and on schedule, working with colleagues across the finance function to achieve departmental objectives. Respond to financial inquiries from senior finance leadership, including the CFO and Executive Director of Operational Finance, and prepare ad hoc analyses and specialized reports as required. Identify opportunities to improve financial workflows, reporting procedures, and internal controls, contributing to the development and implementation of more effective processes. Work collaboratively with colleagues across finance and operations to maintain reliable financial records, strengthen project financial management, and support organizational growth. Requirements A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline. At least 5 years of experience in general ledger accounting and financial reporting, including a strong understanding of the accounting cycle, project budgets, project financial management, Earned Value Analysis, and contract review, or equivalent relevant experience and demonstrated competencies. Solid understanding of the clinical trial project lifecycle and the relationship between financial performance, contractual obligations, project scope, and operational delivery. Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing procedures. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer applications, with experience using QuickBooks or comparable accounting and financial management software. Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, investigate budget variances, monitor revenue performance, and communicate meaningful financial insights to operational and executive stakeholders. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize competing demands, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships across departments and interact effectively with management and project teams. A self-motivated and adaptable approach, with the ability to learn quickly, work independently, collaborate effectively, and contribute positively to shared objectives. Willingness and ability to undertake occasional domestic and international travel, including overnight stays. An MBA is preferred. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation in North America or an equivalent local professional qualification is an advantage.
