Octopus Energy is a rapidly growing, global energy business. We're looking for a Senior Global Finance manager who has a passion for helping support and grow a high, paced, global disruptor. The Octopus Energy Group spans everything from Renewable Generation to domestic flexibility, and from domestic heat pumps to public EV charging. In total we are operating dozens of businesses in over 20 countries around the world - and we have a lot further to go. We're looking for a motivated finance professional to work closely with our Group Corporate Finance Director. You’ll be responsible for delivering key accounting advice and implementation for high importance areas of the Group (e.g. fundraising, M&A, new geographies, new lines of business, internal restructures). Octopus has done 40+ deals in the past 5 years ranging from acquiring small retail businesses to launch Octopus in new markets, to a Joint Venture in Japan, to acquiring 3m customers in taking on Bulb and Shell’s UK retail businesses, and most recently to demerging Kraken Tech. You'll need experience in local and international accounting standards and fast-paced, rapidly growing, global organisations. The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with hands-on experience delivering accounting workstreams on strategic business initiatives. In exchange you will be involved in some of the most important financial decisions and projects that we undertake.
Provide technical accounting, financial advice and support for the most important strategic projects within the business, including in relation to debt facilities, key contracts, intercompany activity, and M&A Provide technical accounting advice to the group and business units within the audit process Ensure implementation of accounting excellence across the group covering a broad spectrum of new developments and initiatives in the group Lead on accounting for due diligence on M&A activities Work closely with our treasury, capital markets, legal and tax teams on project implementations Work closely with Group Reporting and auditors to ensure that any new projects are accurately disclosed in the financial statements Work, where necessary, with external advisors to support on key projects and for select pieces of advice
Big 4 qualified (CA, ACCA or equivalent) with great post-qualified experience in practice or in industry Excellent technical accounting experience in audit and/or advisory Experience in controls implementations and business process improvements The ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects The ability to effectively form trusted relationships with business unit management teams but at the same time retain an ability to challenge with empathy and understanding Excellent communication and listening skills will be core to this
