Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer based in Australia. Join a fast-growing technology environment building next-generation cloud infrastructure for demanding AI and high-performance computing workloads. As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will take ownership of the architecture, deployment, and operation of production-grade OpenStack and Kubernetes platforms. Your work will directly influence infrastructure performance, scalability, security, and reliability as the platform expands globally. You will tackle complex engineering challenges, automate infrastructure operations, and optimize GPU workloads to support increasingly sophisticated customer requirements. Working closely with Platform, DevOps, AI, Product, and Support teams, you will help shape the evolution of critical cloud systems. This remote opportunity offers substantial technical autonomy, meaningful ownership, and the chance to build resilient infrastructure at scale.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, operate, and continuously improve cloud infrastructure supporting GPU-intensive workloads and large-scale computing environments. You will combine deep infrastructure expertise with automation, performance optimization, and operational excellence to ensure reliable and secure platform delivery. Platform architecture and ownership: Design, deploy, operate, and maintain OpenStack and Kubernetes environments, ensuring they remain scalable, resilient, and performant in production. Infrastructure automation: Build and improve infrastructure-as-code solutions and GitOps workflows to streamline provisioning, deployment, configuration, and ongoing operations. GPU workload optimization: Optimize workload scheduling and resource utilization using Kubernetes and NVIDIA tooling to support demanding compute-intensive applications. Performance monitoring and reliability: Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability systems to detect issues early and maintain platform stability. Incident management: Lead incident response, troubleshoot complex infrastructure failures, identify root causes, and implement improvements that strengthen reliability. Security and access management: Maintain robust security controls across infrastructure and container environments, including role-based access control (RBAC), network policies, and tenant isolation. Infrastructure architecture improvement: Identify opportunities to simplify, modernize, and scale infrastructure systems while balancing performance, efficiency, and operational complexity. Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Platform, DevOps, AI, Product, and Support teams to align infrastructure capabilities with technical requirements and customer needs. Continuous improvement: Establish effective operational practices, automate repetitive tasks, and contribute to the evolution of infrastructure architecture as the platform grows. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced infrastructure engineer with strong production expertise in OpenStack and Kubernetes, a solid foundation in Linux and networking, and the ability to independently solve complex technical challenges. You should be comfortable taking end-to-end ownership of critical systems, working in a fast-moving environment, and making sound technical decisions with minimal supervision. Strong hands-on experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting OpenStack in production environments. Proven experience managing Kubernetes infrastructure at scale, ideally in bare-metal or private cloud environments. Solid understanding of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and storage technologies. Experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure-as-code practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows. Ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure, availability, and performance issues. Understanding of cloud infrastructure architecture, operational reliability, and scalable system design. Knowledge of infrastructure security practices, including access controls, network policies, and workload isolation. Strong ownership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage technical responsibilities without extensive oversight. A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to simplify complex systems and deliver practical, scalable solutions. Strong collaboration and communication skills, enabling effective work with engineering teams and other technical stakeholders. Eligibility to work in Australia without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future. Ability to work remotely from within Australia. Nice-to-have qualifications: Experience integrating Kubernetes with OpenStack environments. Exposure to GPU infrastructure, high-performance computing (HPC), or large-scale compute platforms. Familiarity with advanced networking technologies and cloud-native ecosystems. Contributions to open-source infrastructure or cloud computing projects. Benefits: Competitive salary and discretionary bonus. 25 days of annual leave, in addition to public holidays. Fully remote working arrangement for candidates based in Australia. Significant technical ownership and autonomy over critical infrastructure systems. The opportunity to solve complex engineering challenges involving high-performance computing and AI workloads. Direct impact on platform reliability, performance, and customer experience. Opportunities for career progression as the business and infrastructure platform scale. A collaborative engineering environment focused on innovation, performance, and continuous improvement.
