We are now seeking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified Senior Lecturer in Health Informatics to join the PHM academic division and CIDER. Requirements include:

  • A master’s degree in an appropriate field with the ability to supervise post-graduate students at master’s level or above

  • 4 years’ experience working with health data derived from routine health information systems, or in a core technical health informatics domain

  • Research expertise backed by an appropriate track record

The following would be advantageous:

  • Active experience working with health standards and ontologies

  • A specific interest in terminology services within a health information exchange

  • Formal training in health information systems or clinical informatics, additional to experience

  • While the post is not limited to registered clinicians, clinicians with health information systems training and experience are encouraged to apply

Responsibilities include:

  • The successful candidate will initially co-convene and teach on a master’s-level Health Information Systems module within the Master’s in Public Health (MPH) and Computational Health Informatics Master’s (CHIP) programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

  • Supervising postgraduate students in health informatics topics

  • Developing and supporting research in health informatics and the use of routine health data

  • Contribute specialist expertise to CIDER’s long-standing partnership with the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness Provincial Health Data Centre (PHDC) in support of improved health service delivery

  • Supporting convenings and activities of the Hasso-Plattner UCT Partnership in Digital Health

The post would suit an academic with a strong combination of operational health informatics expertise, postgraduate teaching and supervision experience, and an established research track record. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to an evolving field, collaborate across academic and health-sector environments, and play a key role in strengthening health informatics teaching and research at UCT as well as health information systems in the services.
