Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Noise Analyst based in the United States. The Senior Noise Analyst will provide advanced technical expertise in transportation noise analysis, supporting highway, rail, airport, and environmental impact assessment projects. You will join an established nationwide noise practice and contribute to complex studies that help infrastructure projects meet regulatory requirements and minimize community noise impacts. Using advanced FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM) 2.5 capabilities, you will conduct noise modeling, field monitoring, impact assessments, and noise abatement evaluations. You will also prepare technical documentation for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) studies and interpret federal, state, and transportation agency regulations. Working with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, and public stakeholders, you will translate complex technical findings into practical recommendations. This remote or hybrid opportunity offers the chance to lead technical work, support major infrastructure initiatives, and contribute to more sustainable transportation planning across the United States.
Conduct transportation noise analyses: Perform detailed noise assessments for highway, rail, and airport projects, evaluating potential impacts on surrounding communities and sensitive receptors. Develop advanced noise models: Build, operate, and analyze noise models using FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM) 2.5 to assess existing conditions, predict project-related noise levels, and evaluate potential mitigation measures. Perform field investigations: Conduct or support noise monitoring, field data collection, impact assessments, and noise abatement analyses to inform project decisions. Apply regulatory requirements: Interpret and implement applicable federal and state noise regulations, including 23 CFR Part 772, and guidance from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and state Departments of Transportation. Support environmental compliance: Prepare technical reports, noise analyses, and supporting documentation for NEPA studies and transportation planning and design projects. Evaluate noise mitigation strategies: Assess potential abatement measures and provide technical recommendations that address regulatory requirements and community impacts. Contribute to project planning: Support proposal preparation, project scoping, work planning, and task management for noise-related assignments. Manage noise projects: Lead or support stand-alone noise studies and noise analysis components within larger environmental and infrastructure projects. Communicate technical findings: Present noise analysis results, methodologies, and recommendations clearly to clients, regulatory agencies, project teams, and members of the public. Support public involvement: Contribute technical expertise to public meetings, stakeholder engagement, and community discussions concerning transportation noise impacts. Collaborate across disciplines: Work with environmental specialists, planners, engineers, and project managers to integrate noise analysis into broader infrastructure planning and delivery. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional experience: At least 10 years of experience conducting FHWA highway traffic noise analysis. Advanced modeling expertise: Demonstrated proficiency with FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM) 2.5, including developing and interpreting models for transportation projects. Regulatory knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and state Department of Transportation noise policies, procedures, and guidelines, including relevant FHWA requirements. Environmental documentation: Experience preparing technical reports and noise documentation for NEPA studies and other environmental review processes. Noise assessment skills: Practical knowledge of noise monitoring, data collection, impact evaluation, and noise abatement analysis. Public engagement experience: Ability to support noise-related public involvement activities and communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences. Technical writing and communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present clear, accurate findings and recommendations. Organization and independence: Strong project coordination skills and the ability to manage priorities, work independently, and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Preferred certification: TNM classroom certification. Preferred technical tools: Familiarity with MicroStation, AutoCAD, and/or geographic information systems (GIS). Additional preferred experience: Rail and airport noise analysis, community or municipal noise studies, and noise assessments for data centers, energy facilities, industrial sites, or commercial developments. Project management experience: Previous experience managing stand-alone noise projects or coordinating noise-related technical work is an advantage. Location and work arrangement: Must be based in the United States. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are available, with the role ideally based in Pennsylvania or another established office location nationwide. Benefits Annual salary: Approximately $100,000–$150,000, depending on education, qualifications, experience, skills, and work location. Healthcare coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
