Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer based in the United States. Join a fully remote engineering team as a Senior Platform Engineer, taking ownership of the infrastructure, backend systems, and developer tooling that power a growing software platform. In this hands-on role, you will combine senior-level software engineering with platform reliability, cloud infrastructure management, and security leadership. You will strengthen application performance, scalability, and resilience while improving deployment processes and the overall software development lifecycle. Working closely with engineering leadership and product teams, you will translate customer needs and business priorities into practical technical solutions. You will also play a central role in SOC 2 Type II compliance, incident response, and continuous improvement. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring teammates, and balancing product delivery with operational excellence.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will own critical infrastructure and application systems while helping the engineering organization deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable software. Your responsibilities will include: Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure across AWS and Cloudflare, improving scalability, reliability, performance, security, and cost efficiency. Design, build, test, and maintain backend services, APIs, background processing workflows, and production application features using Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript. Own complex engineering initiatives from requirements clarification and technical design through implementation, deployment, production validation, and ongoing maintenance. Contribute across the application stack, including dashboards, public APIs, legacy workers, BullMQ workers, and frontend components when needed to deliver complete customer-facing solutions. Design and optimize data models, API contracts, asynchronous processing, and failure-handling mechanisms, addressing inefficient queries, queue bottlenecks, and application performance issues. Maintain Redis and MongoDB environments, including configuration, monitoring, query optimization, backup management, and data availability. Improve deployment and release management through automation, repeatable workflows, safe rollouts, and reliable rollback procedures. Strengthen the software development lifecycle by improving development environments, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality checks, security controls, and release readiness. Lead infrastructure security initiatives and support SOC 2 Type II compliance by maintaining technical controls, managing access and vulnerabilities, documenting evidence, supporting audits, and remediating findings. Contribute to incident response and blameless post-incident reviews, turning operational lessons into improvements that reduce recurring risks and protect customers. Monitor uptime, application performance, and infrastructure health using tools such as Datadog, ClickHouse, HyperDX, Grafana, and other observability solutions. Develop and maintain infrastructure documentation and dependency maps, support disaster recovery planning, and improve backup, recovery, and data integrity practices. Prioritize technical improvements according to customer impact, business needs, security risks, delivery speed, and cost efficiency. Enhance developer experience, conduct thoughtful code reviews, mentor colleagues, share technical knowledge, and continuously evaluate technologies that improve engineering effectiveness. Requirements: The ideal candidate combines substantial platform engineering experience with strong backend development skills, hands-on cloud infrastructure expertise, and a practical approach to security and compliance. You should be comfortable working independently, collaborating across teams, and taking responsibility for production systems. Required qualifications include: At least 5 years of engineering experience, including a minimum of 4 years in a Platform Engineer role. Strong expertise in managing, securing, and optimizing AWS infrastructure. Hands-on experience with Redis and MongoDB, including configuration, monitoring, performance optimization, and backup management. Expertise in Infrastructure as Code tools, particularly OpenTofu and Terragrunt. Experience with deployment and release management, along with a solid understanding of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices and tools. Practical experience securing production infrastructure, including least-privilege access controls, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and security monitoring. Ability to translate security and compliance requirements into repeatable engineering practices, maintain evidence of control operation, support audit readiness, and help remediate findings for SOC 2 Type II. Experience partnering with product engineers to improve the SDLC while balancing feature delivery, reliability, security, and developer productivity. Senior-level backend engineering capabilities, including independently designing, shipping, testing, debugging, and maintaining production services and application features. Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript, including API development, asynchronous programming, automated testing, and production troubleshooting. Experience designing application data models and reliable background jobs, with an understanding of safe retries, idempotency, failure recovery, and performance across application code, databases, and queues. Ability to work across backend and frontend systems, learn unfamiliar parts of an application stack, and collaborate with product engineers to deliver complete features. Proficiency in command-line scripting and experience with application performance monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Sentry, or Kibana. Knowledge of disaster recovery planning, including data integrity and availability during emergencies. Strong communication and problem-solving skills, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to explain technical designs and tradeoffs to technical and nontechnical stakeholders. A customer-focused, business-aligned mindset, with the ability to prioritize work according to customer impact and organizational goals. Previous experience working remotely is required. Nice-to-have qualifications: Experience with additional product engineering technologies and frameworks, including React, Mongoose, LESS, and related tools. Familiarity with AWS services such as Elastic Beanstalk, SQS, CloudFront, EC2, ElastiCache, and Route 53. Experience with Kubernetes, Argo CD, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or related infrastructure and deployment technologies. Familiarity with Cloudflare DNS, Workers, and Zero Trust/WARP. Experience with monitoring and analytics tools such as ClickHouse, Datadog, HyperDX, Grafana, Stitch, Metabase, or Snowflake. Applied large language model (LLM) engineering experience, including integrating models such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini into production systems. Understanding of prompt engineering, context engineering, and token management. Experience designing or implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, embeddings, and vector search. Familiarity with emerging LLM infrastructure patterns and protocols, including MCP, tool or function calling, and AI agents. Benefits: Competitive salary. 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% employer match. 100% company-paid health, dental, and vision insurance. Company-paid life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. Fully remote work, with the ability to work from anywhere in North America. A new MacBook or a computer of your choice. Monthly stipend to help cover home internet costs. Generous paid time off (PTO). A close-knit, talented team with opportunities for professional growth. A work culture that prioritizes work-life balance and offers compensation and benefits designed to be competitive with larger organizations.
