We are seeking a visionary Senior Staff Engineer, UI Architect — a proven front-end architect who will define the future of our UI, one where interfaces are increasingly composed by AI agents in real time, not just hand-built screen by screen. In this role you will spearhead the development of our AI experiences, working closely with our AI and platform engineering teams, while owning the architectural vision for scalable, user-centric UI systems and the design system that underpins them. You will lead our adoption of agent-driven UI — establishing how AI agents render rich, interactive experiences into our product through Google's A2UI (Agent-to-User Interface) spec, mapped onto our own React component catalog. You will work across ReactJS, TypeScript, Postgres, and AWS in a serverless environment, while championing an "AI-native" engineering culture that standardizes tools like Claude Code and Codex to maximize velocity and quality. This is a hybrid position based in Palo Alto, California, and in-office collaboration is required for at least 3 days per week. You will be an individual contributor. How You'll Make An Impact:

• AI Experiences Leadership: Spearhead the development of our AI-first, user-facing product experiences, working in close collaboration with our AI/agent engineering teams — turning generative and agent-driven interfaces into reliable, high-quality product surfaces.
• Agent-Driven UI Leadership (A2UI): Lead our adoption of Google's A2UI spec — defining how agents describe interfaces as declarative, framework-agnostic payloads that render through our native React component catalog, treating UI as data rather than executable code. Own the renderer strategy, component catalog design, event/round-trip model, and the transport approach (e.g., A2A / AG-UI) that connects our agents to the front end.
• Architectural Vision: Define and drive the architecture for our front-end systems, focused on scalability, maintainability, and performance across both traditional and agent-generated surfaces.
• Design System Ownership: Own and evolve the design system and shared component library — tokens, primitives, composition patterns, theming, and accessibility — as the single catalog that serves both human-authored screens and agent-composed surfaces.
• AI-Native Execution: Champion an "AI-first" engineering culture, integrating Claude Code, Codex, and other LLM harnesses into daily workflows to accelerate experimentation, delivery, and code quality.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with AI/agent engineers, backend engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure seamless integration of front-end, backend, and agent systems.
• Tooling & Framework Strategy: Evaluate and recommend tools, libraries, and frameworks — including emerging agent/generative-UI standards — to sharpen our development process and competitive edge.
• Standards & Reviews: Supervise and review the team's work for alignment with architecture decisions, coding standards, design patterns, and established guidelines, including how AI tooling and agent-generated UI are adopted responsibly.
• Mentorship: Conduct technical reviews and mentor engineers in implementing complex front-end and agent-driven solutions, balancing human-led mentorship with AI-augmented development.
• Technical Health: Actively identify technical debt and architectural improvements, keeping the system healthy even as delivery accelerates.
• Accessibility & UX: Advocate for and implement strategies that improve accessibility, usability, and overall user experience — including for dynamically generated interfaces.
• Lean Tradeoffs: Make deliberate short- and long-term tradeoffs in service of the architectural vision and customer value — minimizing waste, favoring small iterations and tight feedback loops, and prioritizing what customers actually need over speculative polish. Let's Connect If You Have:
• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: 10+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on front-end development and UI architecture.
• UI Architecture & Expertise (Required): Deep, hands-on expertise in ReactJS, TypeScript, and modern front-end engineering, paired with a proven track record of setting and driving front-end architectural vision — making the architecture decisions behind scalable, maintainable, high-performance UI systems.
• Design System (Required): Demonstrated experience building, scaling, or serving as a primary owner/contributor to a design system or shared component library — including tokens, reusable primitives, composition patterns, theming, and accessibility. This is foundational here: the same catalog is what agents compose against via A2UI.
• AI Experience (Required): Hands-on experience across two dimensions — (1) designing and building AI-first, user-facing product experiences (e.g., generative or LLM-powered interfaces shipped to real users), and (2) using LLM-powered coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and other AI coding assistants to accelerate the SDLC and improve code quality. We expect demonstrated depth in at least one of these areas and working fluency in the other.
• Agent-Driven / Generative UI (Strongly Preferred): Familiarity with agent-driven and generative-UI approaches — ideally Google's A2UI, along with related protocols such as A2A and AG-UI — or the demonstrated ability to go deep on an emerging standard fast and lead its adoption. (This is a new and fast-moving space; leadership instinct matters as much as prior exposure.)
• Lean Mindset: A bias for delivering customer value by cutting waste, optimizing workflows, iterating in small steps, and continuously improving.
• Backend Awareness: Solid understanding of backend technologies such as Postgres and AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, etc.) is a plus.
• Craft: Solid knowledge of performance optimization, accessibility standards, and responsive design.
• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, make architectural decisions, and align engineering with business objectives, with exceptional communication and the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• Bonus: Experience with serverless architectures and growth-focused engineering projects is highly desirable.
