Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Underwriter — Strategic Growth & Risk based in United States. This is a senior underwriting opportunity for an experienced insurance professional who wants to influence more than individual risk decisions. You will evaluate complex property and casualty risks while keeping long-term portfolio profitability and sustainable growth in focus. The role combines technical underwriting judgment with strategic thinking, market awareness, and relationship building. You will serve as a trusted advisor to independent insurance agents, providing guidance and creative solutions that encourage strong business partnerships. You will also identify emerging trends, growth opportunities, and process improvements that can strengthen the broader underwriting operation. The position offers significant autonomy in a remote environment and the opportunity to contribute ideas that shape underwriting strategy. It is well suited to an analytical, curious, and relationship-oriented underwriter who enjoys solving complex problems and improving how things work.

Evaluate new business, renewals, endorsements, policy changes, and complex submissions while considering both individual risk quality and long-term portfolio profitability. Make sound underwriting decisions within established authority limits, exercising independent judgment on complex, non-standard, and evolving risks. Build and maintain strong relationships with independent insurance agents, becoming a trusted underwriting advisor rather than simply a source of risk decisions. Provide agents with coverage guidance, creative solutions, market insights, and clear explanations that help them bring high-quality business to the portfolio. Monitor market trends, competitor activity, regional developments, emerging risks, and other external signals to inform underwriting decisions and territory strategy. Identify patterns across submissions, agency relationships, and portfolio performance to uncover opportunities for profitable growth. Collaborate with leadership to improve underwriting processes, identify workflow inefficiencies, and introduce ideas that make operations more effective. Balance growth objectives with disciplined risk selection, knowing when to pursue creative solutions and when to maintain underwriting boundaries. Contribute strategic insights that help shape portfolio direction, territory performance, and sustainable business growth. Requirements: 5+ years of Property & Casualty underwriting experience, with experience in homeowners, dwelling property, personal lines, commercial property, specialty, or Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines. Proven experience evaluating new business, renewals, endorsements, and policy changes. Experience working directly with independent insurance agents and building trusted agency relationships. Demonstrated ability to make independent underwriting decisions within established authority levels. Strong analytical skills and the ability to connect individual risk characteristics with broader portfolio, market, and profitability considerations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to explain underwriting decisions and provide strategic guidance to agency partners. Strong judgment and intellectual curiosity, with the ability to investigate ambiguous or complex risks and identify creative but disciplined solutions. Ability to recognize patterns across data, market developments, agency behavior, and emerging risks and translate those insights into action. Demonstrated bias toward continuous improvement and the ability to question existing processes constructively. Strong relationship-building skills and a consultative approach to working with external partners. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing competing priorities without compromising quality or accuracy. CPCU, CIC, AINS, CRM, or another insurance designation is a plus. Excess & Surplus Lines experience is valued but not required. Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field is preferred. Benefits: Competitive compensation. Comprehensive benefits package. Generous paid time off. Wellness and mental health resources. Paid parental leave. 401(k) plan with company matching contributions. Fully remote work environment. Opportunity to shape underwriting strategy and influence portfolio growth. Significant autonomy and ownership over underwriting decisions and strategic initiatives. Collaborative culture focused on trust, transparency, teamwork, integrity, and continuous improvement. Professional growth opportunities and the ability to contribute innovative ideas. Opportunity to build long-term relationships with independent insurance agents and senior stakeholders. Inclusive environment where employees are encouraged to contribute, develop, and take ownership of meaningful work.
