Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sensing / Signal Processing Software Engineer based in the United States. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineer to develop advanced remote sensing, signal processing, and geospatial intelligence systems. You will work across the full engineering lifecycle, from architecture and algorithm development to integration, testing, and deployment. The role combines software engineering expertise with practical knowledge of satellite imagery, SAR, RF/radar systems, and complex sensor-derived data. You will build scalable data-processing pipelines, intelligent workflows, and software applications that transform raw sensor data into actionable insights. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams and domain experts, you will help solve technically challenging problems in geospatial intelligence, national security, and other data-intensive industries. This remote position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative technologies with meaningful real-world applications.
Design, develop, integrate, and maintain software solutions supporting remote sensing, signal processing, and geospatial intelligence applications. Build and optimize algorithms and software systems for processing, transforming, analyzing, and exploiting complex sensor-derived and geospatial datasets. Develop and maintain applications, data-processing pipelines, backend services, and APIs, primarily using Python and other appropriate programming languages. Apply strong computer science and software engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges and deliver reliable, maintainable solutions. Translate remote sensing, signal processing, and systems engineering requirements into scalable software architectures and technical designs. Understand and integrate the interactions between sensors, SAR, RF/radar systems, signal-processing algorithms, data pipelines, orchestration layers, and end-user applications. Contribute to system architecture, technical planning, implementation, integration, testing, debugging, performance optimization, and deployment throughout the project lifecycle. Develop automated workflows and orchestration systems to streamline data processing and algorithm execution across complex technical environments. Collaborate with software engineers, systems engineers, data scientists, analysts, and domain specialists to deliver integrated solutions. Work with large-scale, heterogeneous, and high-volume sensor datasets while ensuring efficient data handling and processing. Document software architectures, technical specifications, interfaces, and engineering decisions to support maintainability and knowledge sharing. Provide technical leadership across projects and workstreams, contributing to engineering decisions and coordinating multidisciplinary efforts. Support additional engineering responsibilities as required, including occasional evening or weekend work to meet project needs. Requirements: At least five years of professional experience in software engineering, algorithm development, signal processing, remote sensing, systems engineering, or a closely related technical field. Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Strong foundations in computer science, software architecture, software development principles, and systems integration. Professional experience developing production-oriented software using Python. Demonstrated experience designing, building, and integrating software systems, rather than focusing exclusively on research or data analysis. Practical experience working with remote sensing, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), radio frequency (RF), radar, or other signal-derived sensor data. Understanding of signal-processing concepts and their application to real-world sensor systems. Ability to understand complex technical systems, identify dependencies between components, and translate requirements across software, algorithms, data processing, and systems engineering. Experience contributing to technical architecture, system design, implementation, integration, or deployment decisions. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT), electromagnetic or radar systems, geospatial data, satellite imagery, or Earth observation. Familiarity with distributed data-processing systems, workflow orchestration, cloud-based architectures, APIs, backend services, or full-stack applications is an advantage. Knowledge of containerization, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, and modern software development practices is beneficial. Experience handling large-scale sensor datasets, systems engineering, or technical project leadership is preferred. Background in defense, aerospace, intelligence, national security, or government and Department of Defense (DoD) programs is an additional advantage. Applicants must provide a relevant cover letter explaining their interest in the role and highlighting their technical experience and motivation. Benefits: Competitive compensation: Annual salary ranging from $135,000 to $145,000, depending on skills and experience. Remote work: Location flexibility for employees based in the United States. Flexible scheduling: Discretionary paid time off (PTO) and flexible working arrangements. Equity participation: Stock options offering the opportunity to share in the organization's growth. Retirement savings: 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions. Healthcare coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their eligible dependents. Health spending accounts: Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options. Insurance protection: Employer-paid life insurance and long-term and short-term disability coverage. Family support: Disability coverage applicable to parental and family-care needs. Paid holidays: 11 paid holidays annually. Professional development: Access to training, career development opportunities, and an educational assistance program. Inclusive workplace: Employee resource groups that encourage collaboration, belonging, and diverse perspectives. Additional perks: Further benefits and resources designed to support employee well-being and professional growth.
