You’ll collaborate with a diverse team of people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standard of safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. The Data Center Engineering (DCE) team is looking for a passionate, results-oriented, inventive Civil Engineer to drive design and construction in a client-side technical lead role for the delivery of our enterprise data center campus projects.

As a Civil Engineer, you will work as part of the wider DCE Team collaborating with our Real Estate, Design Services, Construction and other partner teams. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of design delivery ensuring we continue to meet and exceed our industry leading quality and performance requirements.

Utilizing your Civil Engineering expertise, you will assist in assessing site constraints, developing acceleration strategies and supporting overall campus planning, development and construction. This position ultimately plays a pivotal role for the delivery of Data Center projects.

The successful candidate will be strong leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly with a history of delivering for their customers. The role requires creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus. You must be able to work as part of a large and dynamic team, including many internal stakeholders, customers as well as external stakeholders like design consultants, developers and general contractors.

Key job responsibilities

  • Review Due Diligence assessments to determine site constraints, risks and develop investigation scopes.
  • Create, review, and release design consultant request for proposals.
  • Manage our external civil design consultants through the design and construction process.
  • Develop and review designs for grading, storm water, flood mitigation, utilities, and pavements.
  • Deep understanding of interdependent civil design elements to develop optimised earthworks and utilities designs and minimise the construction schedule.
  • Lead our internal modelling and documentation resources.
  • Coordinate with internal and external Architecture, Structure and MEP design engineers.
  • Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
  • Manage multiple fast paced projects simultaneously.
  • Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.
  • Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction. Anticipated travel is approximately 25%.

A day in the life Given Amazon's global presence, 25% travel is required. This includes international travel to inspect and audit current and future data center sites. Collaboration with international teams is essential, and you may need to travel for workshops to develop schematic and detailed design documentation packages.
