Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Developer Sr Principal based in the United States. We are seeking a highly experienced software development professional to provide technical leadership for enterprise-scale applications supporting critical healthcare systems. In this role, you will shape architectural decisions, drive modernization initiatives, and deliver secure, scalable Java-based solutions that improve the accuracy of healthcare claims processing. You will work with modern technologies, including Spring Boot, microservices, RESTful APIs, and AI-assisted development tools, in a collaborative and Agile environment. Beyond hands-on development, you will guide engineering standards, oversee code quality, and mentor developers to strengthen team performance. Your contributions will help safeguard the integrity of Medicare funding while ensuring reliable, maintainable, and high-performing systems. This remote opportunity is ideal for a seasoned technical leader who combines deep engineering expertise with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

Define and own the technical architecture and design standards for enterprise applications, ensuring alignment with established architectural guidelines, security requirements, and business objectives. Lead the technical direction of large-scale software development projects, providing architectural oversight, conducting design and code reviews, and guiding engineering teams toward high-quality solutions. Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and design patterns, documenting architectural decisions, technical trade-offs, and recommendations. Translate complex business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions that meet user and operational needs. Lead the modernization of legacy applications by adopting Spring Boot microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud-ready architectural approaches. Research, design, develop, test, document, and maintain enterprise-grade Java applications and web services, ensuring performance, reliability, and security throughout the software development life cycle. Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and healthcare program stakeholders to enhance Coordination of Benefits and Recovery (COB&R) applications and support accurate Medicare claims processing. Leverage AI-assisted development tools, such as Amazon Q Developer, to improve development productivity, testing, documentation, and code quality. Support quality assurance initiatives, resolve complex technical challenges, and act as an escalation point for production incidents and application issues. Mentor and coach less experienced developers, promoting best practices in software design, testing, secure coding, code reviews, and the responsible use of AI-assisted tools. Take ownership of individual deliverables, contribute to special projects as needed, and continuously identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and application performance. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent education, training, military experience, or professional experience. At least 10 years of experience in object-oriented software development, including 10+ years building Java web and enterprise applications using Java, web services, HTML, and XML. At least 5 years of experience developing applications with Spring Boot and designing RESTful APIs, along with 5+ years of microservices development experience. At least 10 years of SQL experience, with strong knowledge of database design, querying, and enterprise data management. At least 3 years of experience in a technical leadership or software architecture role, including architectural decision-making, design authority, and technical oversight of development teams. Strong full-stack Java development expertise and a thorough understanding of Java object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and efficient coding practices. Hands-on experience with Git and GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews, as well as Jira for work tracking in an Agile environment. Experience using AI-assisted software development tools, such as Amazon Q Developer, to support coding, testing, documentation, and engineering productivity. Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to staying current with software development technologies and best practices. Preferred qualifications: Experience with Angular and/or Node.js, Valkey or Redis for caching and data storage, PostgreSQL, and CI/CD pipelines. Previous experience with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) systems or healthcare-related government contracts is strongly preferred. Eligibility requirements: Must successfully pass a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) background check and meet the Public Trust residency requirement of having lived in the United States for at least three of the past five years. Work-life balance: Flexible workweek options, paid vacation, sick and personal leave, and approximately 10 paid holidays annually.
