Full Job Description

We're looking for an SDE II to join a team building AI-native tools that help tens of thousands of Amazon builders work backwards from customer needs. This is your opportunity to build software that shapes how product teams across Amazon approach ideation and development, making it easier to build products customers love.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers and scientists to build and improve features across our full stack: front-end experiences built with modern web frameworks, and backend services that power multi-agent AI systems. You'll participate in the full software development lifecycle (scoping, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support) and iterate based on real user feedback in a team that values speed and learning.

We're looking for someone who has hands-on experience with AI on both sides: using AI-powered tools to write and improve code, and building systems that leverage AI to solve customer problems. You should be comfortable working with large language models, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation, whether that means integrating AI capabilities into applications or using AI to accelerate your own development workflow. This dual fluency (using AI and building with AI) is core to how our team works.

The team operates with startup-like autonomy, ships often, and learns from users. You'll lead the team through hands-on generative AI application development at scale. If you're a strong software engineer who is excited about leading teams to build AI-powered products that change how Amazon builds products, we want to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and deploy software components across our full-stack applications, including front-end web experiences and backend services
  • Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code that others can maintain and extend
  • Collaborate with team members on technical design, code reviews, and problem-solving, incorporating feedback to continuously improve code quality
  • Work with product management and UX design to understand customer requirements and translate them into technical implementations
  • Partner closely with Applied Science to apply best practices for building generative AI applications, including prompt engineering, retrieval systems, and agent-based architectures
  • Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement
  • Actively coach other engineers on the team and ensure the best engineering practices are adopted across the team.
