We are looking for an exceptional software development leader to help revolutionize cloud file storage for the workloads enterprises depend on most — from business-critical applications and databases to GPU-heavy AI/ML training and inference. Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP is a fully managed AWS service that delivers the performance, availability, and data management capabilities customers expect from on-premises enterprise storage, with the elasticity, durability, and operational simplicity of AWS.

AWS has been continually expanding its services to support virtually any cloud workload, and it now has more than 200 fully featured services that range from compute, storage, networking, database, analytics, application services, deployment, management, developer, mobile, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), security, hybrid and enterprise applications. As a Software Development Manager, you will lead an established engineering team in New York City building and operating Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP. Delivering reliable, high-performance storage at AWS scale requires technical leaders with extraordinary expertise and boundless creativity. You will own your team's roadmap and its operational excellence, hire and grow engineers, and make the architectural calls that determine how a distributed storage system behaves under load and under failure. At Amazon, managers interact directly with customers, understand our business goals, and innovate rapidly, delivering high-quality and ground-breaking functionality.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in delivery and operational excellence of an AWS service
  • Hire, mentor, and promote engineers
  • Work with teams across AWS to build new solutions
  • Build mechanisms to drive the highest standards within your team
  • Work with product managers, principal engineers, and senior leadership to define the technical roadmap and strategy for FSx

We solve complex, varied problems to enable customers in a diverse set of businesses from AI/ML to EDA, Media & Entertainment to HPC, and enterprise IT whose mission-critical workloads run on filesystems. We build infrastructure-as-code to deploy software quickly and efficiently across the globe and automate the monitoring and health of our software at never- seen-before scale.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
