Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer, Integrations (US + Calgary) based in the United States. As a Software Engineer, Integrations, you will build and scale the data integration infrastructure that enables organizations to connect their systems and manage critical employee information reliably. You will design, develop, and optimize APIs, connectors, and automated workflows that power seamless data ingestion across enterprise platforms. Working across backend services, workflow orchestration, and customer-facing applications, you will help ensure data flows remain secure, accurate, and performant at scale. You will tackle complex integration challenges involving HRIS, payroll, ATS, and other business systems while improving error handling and troubleshooting experiences. In close collaboration with engineering, implementation, and customer success teams, you will turn real-world customer needs into scalable product capabilities. This remote-first opportunity offers meaningful technical ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and the chance to shape the future of enterprise data integration.

Design, develop, maintain, and optimize scalable integration platforms that enable secure and reliable data exchange across enterprise systems. Build and manage native integrations, connectors, APIs, and automated workflows connecting HRIS, ATS, payroll, CRM, ERP, and other third-party applications. Develop robust API integrations that account for authentication, pagination, rate limits, schema changes, partial failures, and other real-world challenges. Improve data ingestion pipelines and workflow orchestration to support large customer datasets, optimize refresh times, and maintain reliability as data volumes grow. Work across distributed systems and services, including Go-based APIs, Temporal workflows, Python transformation engines, and customer-facing frontend applications. Design and implement effective error-handling, monitoring, retry, and recovery mechanisms that make integration failures easier to diagnose and resolve. Improve customer-facing integration experiences by making data mappings, ingestion results, synchronization status, and error messages transparent and actionable. Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineering, Implementation, Customer Success, Product, and other engineering teams to understand customer requirements and expand platform capabilities. Establish and maintain integration standards, technical documentation, reusable development patterns, and governance practices that support long-term scalability and maintainability. Ensure sensitive employee and compensation data is handled securely, with appropriate attention to privacy, compliance, and data protection. Investigate complex cross-system issues, trace data discrepancies through pipelines, and implement sustainable solutions that reduce recurring problems. Contribute to technical decision-making and the long-term evolution of the integration platform while continuously improving development processes and product quality. Requirements: At least four years of experience building and shipping production software, with strong backend engineering fundamentals. Experience with Python and/or Go is preferred. Hands-on experience developing and maintaining integrations with third-party APIs, including REST and SOAP services, webhooks, OAuth, API-key authentication, pagination, rate limiting, and upstream schema changes. Experience designing or maintaining data pipelines and workflow orchestration, including scheduling, sequencing, retries, monitoring, and failure recovery across systems. Strong SQL skills and the ability to understand data models, transformations, validation rules, and data quality challenges. Familiarity with HRIS, ATS, CRM, or ERP platforms and their underlying data models, ideally through experience supporting enterprise implementations or customer onboarding. Strong documentation skills and a commitment to making technical decisions, integration behavior, and troubleshooting procedures clear to other team members. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Customer Success and Implementation teams. A customer-focused engineering mindset, with an appreciation for the usability, reliability, and transparency of the products and systems you build. A strong understanding of security, privacy, and compliance principles when handling sensitive employee or compensation information. Comfort navigating unfamiliar technical environments, analyzing third-party documentation, tracing data issues across pipelines, and resolving ambiguous problems independently. A collaborative and adaptable approach, demonstrating humility, curiosity, accountability, empathy, and a willingness to learn and grow. The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships in a remote environment through proactive communication and intentional collaboration. Preferred qualifications: Experience with frontend technologies such as TypeScript and React, integration platform as a service (iPaaS) tools such as Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, Tray.io, or Celigo, and workflow orchestration engines such as Temporal or Airflow. Additional advantages: Experience with large-scale file-based ingestion using SFTP, CSV, or flat-file pipelines, including data validation and error handling. For candidates based in Calgary, the ability to work legally in Alberta without requiring current or future visa sponsorship is required. Benefits: Competitive compensation: Annual target salary of $140,000–$160,000 USD for US-based employees, depending on experience, expertise, and other relevant factors. Equity participation: Access to an equity program that allows eligible employees to share in the organization's long-term success. Flexible time off: Flexible paid time off for US-based employees, with an emphasis on rest, personal well-being, and sustainable work habits. Additional leave: Paid sick and safe time, compassionate leave, and voting leave. Healthcare coverage: Additional private medical coverage, subject to applicable eligibility and plan terms. Remote-first work environment: Work remotely within the designated eligible locations, with the role designed to support distributed collaboration. Professional development: Opportunities to expand your expertise in APIs, data engineering, distributed systems, workflow orchestration, and enterprise integration technologies. Technical ownership: The opportunity to influence integration architecture, establish engineering standards, and shape the evolution of a core data platform. Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with engineering, product, implementation, and customer success teams to solve meaningful customer challenges. Career progression: A structured initial development path, progressing from onboarding and smaller integration tasks to independently managing integrations, designing advanced architectures, and leading cross-functional initiatives. Inclusive team culture: Join a collaborative environment that values curiosity, candor, community, continuous learning, and diverse perspectives. Expected interview process: Initial 30-minute phone conversation with a member of the Talent team. 45–60-minute interview with the hiring manager. 60-minute technical assessment involving pair programming. 30-minute meeting with a Product team member. Final 30-minute interview with an engineering leader.
