Overview
The 2027 Fellowship Programme is open to people improving computational and software practice in research, with around 20 fellowships including up to three international places.
Complete fellowship details
Each selected Fellow receives a £4,000 activity budget to organise or attend activities that promote good software practice, plus mentoring, cohort learning, community calls, study groups and participation in the annual Collaborations Workshop. The £4,000 is an activity budget, not a salary or living stipend.
Eligibility requirements
The programme is open across career stages and backgrounds, including PhD candidates, research software engineers, academics, research-computing leaders and others supporting research, training or research infrastructure. Applicants outside the UK or without UK institutional affiliation must explain how their plans foster international collaboration or bring a valuable perspective to UK research culture and should address practical issues such as time zones, language barriers or travel expenses.
Tips for this fellowship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Prepare the application form and six-minute screencast around who you are, what you do and your Fellowship plans.
- International applicants should explain the value of their collaboration/perspective for UK research culture and practical delivery.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified on the current official 2027 Fellowship application and launch pages. Applications opened 10 August and close 5 October 2026. No closing clock time is stated, so deadline_date only is stored. The programme offers up to three international positions and a £4,000 activity budget per Fellow.
