Take a leading technical role in designing and developing next-generation trading systems within a mission-critical financial services environment. You will architect high-performance, distributed applications built for low latency, high throughput, and operational resilience. Combining deep Java expertise with Python, Linux, and event-driven architectures, you will help deliver reliable end-to-end trading workflows. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize platform performance, strengthen messaging infrastructure, and resolve complex technical challenges. Beyond hands-on development, you will mentor engineers and promote best practices across the software development lifecycle. This remote contract opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer passionate about capital markets, scalable systems, and performance-critical technology.

As a Senior Java Full Stack Engineer, you will lead the technical design, implementation, and optimization of distributed trading infrastructure, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability across production and non-production environments. Architect, design, and develop distributed, event-driven trading systems optimized for low latency and high throughput. Build and maintain asynchronous processing frameworks and resilient messaging services to support mission-critical trading operations. Collaborate with internal and external teams to deliver robust, end-to-end trading workflows. Lead performance tuning and optimization initiatives across the platform, identifying and resolving bottlenecks affecting latency, scalability, and resilience. Design and implement solutions using Java, Python, Linux, and appropriate distributed systems technologies. Work with low-latency messaging platforms and time-series databases to support trading workloads and data processing. Contribute to the development and maintenance of capital markets and brokerage applications, including order management systems and FIX-based integrations. Support application delivery through CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment processes, and cloud infrastructure. Apply AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and support software development activities. Mentor junior engineers, share technical expertise, and promote engineering standards and best practices. Provide operational support for production and non-production environments, participating in a weekly on-call rotation and occasional weekend support. Requirements: The ideal candidate combines extensive software engineering experience with deep knowledge of low-latency systems, distributed architectures, and financial trading technology. You should be comfortable taking technical ownership, solving complex performance challenges, and collaborating with engineering teams and leadership. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent qualification. At least 10 years of hands-on software design and development experience. Strong expertise in Java, Python, and Linux. Deep experience with low-latency messaging systems, such as 29West or Kafka. Proficiency in KDB+ or other time-series databases. Strong background in scalable, distributed, asynchronous, and event-driven application development. Advanced knowledge of low-latency design patterns and performance optimization techniques. Experience with capital markets or brokerage systems, particularly order management platforms. Solid understanding of the FIX protocol and FIX engines. Experience using AI-assisted developer tools, such as GitHub Copilot. Familiarity with CI/CD and build tools, including GitHub, Maven, Jenkins, Artifactory, and uDeploy. Hands-on experience deploying applications to AWS or other cloud platforms. Ability to analyze complex end-to-end systems and identify performance, scalability, and resilience issues. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative environment. Self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to work with technical and business leadership. Willingness to support production systems through a weekly on-call rotation, including occasional weekend coverage. Benefits: Remote work arrangement. Contract-based engagement. Opportunity to work on high-performance trading infrastructure in a mission-critical financial services environment. Exposure to distributed systems, low-latency messaging, capital markets technology, and cloud platforms. Opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and influence engineering best practices. Salary, healthcare coverage, paid time off, and other benefits are not specified in the job description.
