Whether you are at HQ, in a retail store, or remote, you will be part of a team that thrives on energy, exploration, and connection. Reports to: Senior Accountant (Richie Stevens, VP of Accounting, in the interim) Location: Cottonwood Heights, Utah (Hybrid - In-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

Backcountry's accounting team has gone through significant turnover and is rebuilding. This role owns core month-end close work — journal entries, accruals, bank and payment channel reconciliations, and the revenue and cash cycle across our multi-channel platforms. As Staff Accountant , you will execute close tasks accurately and on time, build well-documented reconciliations, develop a working command of NetSuite and the consolidation process, and find at least one manual task to streamline with AI or automation within your first year. This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.

Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as part of the monthly close checklist Reconcile bank accounts, commercial card statements, and multi-channel customer payment platforms Own the revenue and cash cycle across payment channels, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately Pull and analyze NetSuite data for reporting and variance analysis Gather supporting documentation from business owners, Accounts Payable, and cross-functional teams Support acquisition integration, internal controls, and other team projects as they arise Identify and streamline manual processes using AI tools or automation Maintain clean, well-documented workpapers and reconciliations that can be reviewed and audited

Bachelor's degree in Accounting 0 to 3 years of public or corporate accounting experience (internships count) Solid US GAAP fundamentals, including accruals and account reconciliations Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills Accuracy under tight deadlines with the ability to juggle multiple priorities during month-end close Willingness to learn and curiosity about incorporating AI into accounting workflows Able to work in-office in Cottonwood Heights, Utah on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Experience with Oracle NetSuite or another ERP system Public accounting background (audit or tax) Multi-entity or consolidated accounting experience Exposure to Looker or other BI tools Retail or e-commerce industry experience

The people who do best here are builders. They take ownership, move fast, and want to see the direct impact of their work. Team Impact: Join a rebuilding accounting team where your contributions are visible and valued from day one. You will work closely with your manager and senior team members to keep the close running smoothly. Growth and Development: Clear path from Staff Accountant to Senior Accountant-level scope within 18 to 24 months, with expanding ownership of close areas, acquisition integration, internal controls, and enterprise systems. Real Ownership: You are trusted from day one to own close tasks end-to-end, build documentation, and find ways to improve how the team works. Competitive Benefits: Paid time off policies, 401(k) match, medical/dental/vision and a variety of supplemental policies, and employee discounts across our portfolio of brands.
