Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer, Money Movement based in France. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will lead the design and development of a new trust accounting platform that enables property managers to manage financial records and funds securely, accurately, and compliantly. You will take ownership of the system's architecture and technical direction from the ground up, building production-grade financial infrastructure designed for reliability, scalability, and auditability. Working closely with product, design, finance, and legal teams, you will translate complex business requirements into robust backend solutions. You will establish engineering standards for testing, observability, security, and continuous delivery while ensuring financial correctness remains central to every design decision. As a founding member of the team, you will influence technical strategy, mentor engineers, and drive delivery in a fast-growing, international technology environment. This is an opportunity to shape a critical financial product from its earliest stages and create systems that customers can confidently rely on as their businesses grow.
Lead the architecture and greenfield development of the first version of a trust accounting platform, defining the technical vision, system design, and implementation strategy. Design, build, and operate secure, scalable, and auditable backend services that support accurate financial records and reliable fund management. Establish strong foundations for financial correctness, data integrity, compliance, and accountability throughout the platform's architecture and operational processes. Develop and implement quality assurance practices, including automated testing, quality gates, and CI/CD integration, to ensure reliable and predictable releases. Drive engineering best practices across system design, observability, security, resilience, and production operations. Make pragmatic architectural decisions that balance delivery speed, simplicity, extensibility, and long-term maintainability. Collaborate with product, design, finance, and legal stakeholders to translate business and regulatory requirements into effective technical solutions. Provide technical leadership across teams by communicating architectural decisions clearly, influencing engineering standards, and promoting transparency and accountability. Mentor and support engineers through code reviews, architectural guidance, hands-on pairing, and knowledge sharing. Ensure the platform integrates seamlessly with existing products and can handle increasing transaction volumes and business complexity without requiring fundamental architectural changes. Monitor production performance, identify failure modes and reliability risks, and continuously improve system throughput, accuracy, and operational stability. Requirements: At least eight years of professional software engineering experience, including a minimum of two years operating at Staff Engineer level or in an equivalent senior technical leadership position. Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language, with experience building and maintaining production-grade services. Proven experience designing, delivering, and operating business-critical backend systems used by real customers at scale. Strong architectural judgment, with the ability to design systems that start simple, evolve sustainably, and balance immediate delivery needs with future scalability. Demonstrated ability to lead through technical credibility, clear communication, and collaboration, successfully influencing architecture, engineering standards, and platform adoption across teams. Practical experience with cloud infrastructure and production operations, particularly AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and service reliability. Strong understanding of system observability, automated testing, security, fault tolerance, and the operational challenges associated with distributed backend services. Adaptability when working across multiple programming languages, frameworks, and existing codebases, with the ability to integrate solutions across different technologies. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, finance, design, and legal functions. A strong sense of ownership, a delivery-focused mindset, and a commitment to correctness, accountability, and high-quality engineering. Experience with accounting systems, financial infrastructure, ledger products, or accounting principles is a significant advantage. Hands-on production experience with Go (Golang) is desirable. The ability to work remotely from Germany while collaborating effectively with colleagues and internal stakeholders across the EMEA region. Benefits: Competitive compensation: Salary packages aligned with market rates in the employee's country of residence. Fully remote work: Flexibility to work from home or another suitable location within your country of residence, with a remote-first working environment. Equity participation: Stock options that allow employees to share in the long-term success of a growing and profitable business. Annual paid leave: Paid vacation aligned with applicable country-specific and contractual requirements. Country-specific benefits: Access to benefits such as health insurance and pension contributions where customary and available, depending on the employee's location. Professional development: Opportunities to expand technical expertise, develop leadership capabilities, and progress professionally within a rapidly growing organization. Technical ownership: The opportunity to shape a critical financial platform from the ground up and influence its architecture, engineering standards, and long-term direction. International collaboration: Work with a diverse, distributed team spanning more than 40 countries, bringing together different perspectives and experiences. Values-driven culture: A working environment where core values guide strategic decisions, engineering practices, and everyday collaboration. Meaningful technical challenges: The opportunity to solve complex problems in financial infrastructure, system reliability, scalability, and secure money movement.
