Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Ads Creative Effectiveness based in United States. As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will shape the next generation of AI-powered tools for advertising creative development. You will architect advanced generative systems for images, video, and copy that help advertisers create higher-impact campaigns. The role combines deep machine learning expertise with experimentation, product thinking, and a strong understanding of advertising performance. You will develop models and workflows that preserve products, fonts, logos, and brand assets while enabling sophisticated creative editing. You will also connect generative systems to performance signals such as clicks and conversions to continuously improve creative effectiveness. Working across Product, Sales, Policy, UX, and Ads ML teams, you will help bring innovative capabilities into advertiser-facing experiences while maintaining rigorous safety and compliance standards.
Architect and implement state-of-the-art generative workflows for advertising creative, moving beyond basic prompting to develop systems that preserve products, fonts, logos, and other critical brand assets using techniques such as IP-Adapters and LoRAs. Build end-to-end image and video editing capabilities, including smart cropping, inpainting, outpainting, resizing, and style transfer, while maintaining brand guidelines and creative quality. Fine-tune large language and vision-language models to better understand high-performing advertising aesthetics and creative patterns, incorporating feedback loops that connect ad performance metrics such as CTR and CVR to generation quality. Explore reinforcement learning approaches such as RLHF and RLPF to improve generative advertising systems based on performance and user feedback. Design and implement robust safety, compliance, brand-protection, and copyright safeguards, including filtering systems and human-in-the-loop escalation processes. Partner closely with Product, Sales, Policy, UX, and related Ads ML teams to integrate creative effectiveness capabilities into advertiser-facing tools and the broader ad delivery experience. Apply strong experimentation and quantitative methods to evaluate generative systems, optimize creative performance, and identify opportunities for measurable improvements in advertiser outcomes. Requirements Deep hands-on machine learning expertise spanning areas such as tree-based models, neural networks, ranking systems, and particularly LLM/VLM fine-tuning and reinforcement learning approaches such as RLHF or RLPF for advertising applications. Strong quantitative and experimentation skills, including familiarity with uplift metrics, variance, minimum detectable effects, experimental design, and evaluation frameworks for generative systems. Solid understanding of advertising or marketplace dynamics, including auction mechanisms, advertiser challenges, revenue drivers, and the factors that influence campaign performance and retention. Demonstrated experience developing or leading ad creative technologies such as headline generators, image generators, creative pre-test models, or advertiser-focused editing workflows. Strong product and business judgment, with a bias toward action and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while turning complex technical challenges into practical solutions. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain sophisticated machine learning concepts, trade-offs, risks, and opportunities to executives, product leaders, and non-technical stakeholders. Experience working on brand safety, privacy, copyright, or compliance considerations within generative AI products is highly desirable. Benefits Base salary range of $230,000–$322,000 USD, with final compensation determined by factors including skills, depth of experience, relevant credentials, role level, and location.
