This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Supervisor, Health Information Coding based in the United States. This role leads the day-to-day operations of health information coding services within a complex healthcare environment. You will oversee coding quality, productivity, compliance, and accurate clinical data abstraction across patient records. The position combines people leadership, coding expertise, regulatory knowledge, and operational oversight. You will work closely with payors, auditors, providers, healthcare professionals, and senior stakeholders to resolve coding and reimbursement challenges. A key part of the role is developing coding staff through mentoring, education, performance management, and professional development. You will also contribute to strategic planning, reporting, compliance initiatives, and continuous improvement across coding operations. Supervise daily coding service activities, ensuring departmental quality, productivity, compliance, and operational standards are consistently achieved. Monitor data abstraction processes to ensure relevant clinical information is accurately extracted from patient records and used to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes. Research, coordinate, and respond to coding and billing requests from internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with key stakeholders to resolve payer requests and denials, determine appropriate appeals, and coordinate appeal processing to support accurate reimbursement. Mentor coding staff and provide ongoing education, training, and guidance on coding policies, procedures, regulations, and professional development. Keep current with industry standards, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements, updating internal policies and educating team members and providers on relevant changes. Partner with coding auditors to identify focused review needs, address variations in coding practices, and support established compliance and quality targets. Prepare monthly and other operational reports covering quality, productivity, staffing/FTE levels, and additional performance metrics as required. Support the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategic goals for coding operations. Participate in interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and hiring coding staff. Conduct performance evaluations and provide direct supervision, coaching, and feedback to team members. Exercise independent judgment when resolving non-routine problems while operating within established organizational guidelines. Build effective working relationships with healthcare professionals, internal and external customers, and senior-level stakeholders. Requirements High school diploma or GED required; a bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred. At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within a large acute-care or teaching hospital environment. Current Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification from AHIMA or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC required. RHIA or RHIT certification is preferred. Strong knowledge of applicable healthcare coding regulations, standards, policies, and compliance requirements. Experience with ICD-10, CPT, and APR/DRG methodologies in hospital-focused coding environments is preferred. Knowledge of public reporting platforms and healthcare quality reporting requirements. Understanding of Case Mix Index (CMI), Relative Value Unit (RVU) assignment, severity, and mortality methodologies. Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 for preparing correspondence, reports, and other business documentation. Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to supervise, mentor, educate, and evaluate coding professionals. Proven ability to train team members and providers on coding policies, guidelines, and regulatory changes. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and prioritization abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple requests and competing deadlines effectively. Ability to exercise independent judgment, solve non-routine problems, and make sound decisions with general supervision. Comfortable collaborating with stakeholders ranging from operational teams to director-level and senior leadership. Benefits Full-time position with a Monday–Friday daytime schedule .
