El Salvador is included in the 2027–2028 Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships with Research Fellowship and PhD routes for eligible postgraduate researchers.

For El Salvador, the official 2027–2028 country schedule lists Research Fellowship and PhD scholarship types. Research Fellowships run for 6–12 months; PhD scholarships start with 12 months and may be renewed twice for up to 36 months subject to academic progress. Current support is CHF 2,450 per month for one person. For non-EU/EFTA scholarship holders, the programme also covers compulsory health-insurance premiums and provides a return-flight allowance; additional benefits include a CHF 600 rental-deposit grant and a Half-Fare Travelcard. Tuition and semester fees are generally not covered.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants for the El Salvador routes must meet the Research Fellowship or PhD criteria. Current research routes require a qualifying master’s degree or equivalent by 31 July 2027 (30 June 2027 for ETH Zurich), birth after 31 December 1991, a detailed research plan, and a letter of support from an academic supervisor in Switzerland. Additional doctoral-admission conditions apply where required.
