Complete scholarship details
Switzerland’s official 2027–2028 Europe country schedule lists Montenegro with applications open from 20 August 2026 and a submission deadline of 24 November 2026 at 23:59 Swiss local time. The available Montenegro routes are Research Fellowship and PhD. Both provide CHF 2,450 per month to cover basic living expenses for one person. Research fellowships last six to twelve months and are not extendable; PhD scholarships start on 1 September 2027 and may be renewed up to a total of 36 months subject to academic progress. The programme does not cover tuition or semester fees. For scholarship holders from non-EU/EFTA countries, FCS covers compulsory health-insurance premiums and provides a country-based return-flight allowance; all holders receive a CHF 600 one-time rental-deposit grant and a Half-Fare Travelcard.
Eligibility requirements
Research Fellowship and PhD applicants must be highly qualified researchers with a master’s degree or equivalent completed by 31 July 2027 (30 June 2027 for ETH Zurich), be born after 31 December 1991, submit a detailed research plan, and obtain a letter of support from an academic supervisor at a Swiss higher-education institution. Applicants already residing in Switzerland must also meet the programme’s entry-date condition. PhD applicants follow additional doctoral-admission requirements stated in the official guidance.
Tips for this scholarship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified against SERI’s current 2027–2028 Europe country schedule and the official scholarship-at-a-glance guidance. The Montenegro row lists an opening date of 20 August 2026, a deadline of 24 November 2026 at 11:59 PM Swiss local time, and Research Fellowship plus PhD routes. Late November Swiss local time is CET (UTC+1), so the deadline is normalized to 22:59 UTC. Funding and eligibility were checked against the current SERI guidance; tuition coverage is not claimed because the scholarship does not cover tuition or semester fees.
