Complete scholarship details
The official Africa country schedule lists Research Fellowship and PhD scholarships for applicants from Nigeria. Research Fellowships support 6 to 12 months of full-time research in Switzerland. PhD scholarships begin with 12 months and may be renewed twice for up to 36 months subject to academic progress. Both routes provide CHF 2,450 per month. Additional benefits for non-EU/EFTA recipients include compulsory health-insurance premium coverage, a CHF 600 rental-deposit grant, a Half-Fare Travelcard and a return-flight allowance. Tuition and semester fees are not covered by the federal scholarship and may still be charged by the host institution.
Eligibility requirements
Research Fellowship and PhD applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent completed by 31 July 2027 (30 June 2027 for ETH Zurich), have been born after 31 December 1991, submit a detailed research plan, and secure a support letter from an eligible academic supervisor in Switzerland. The scholarship is for full-time research in Switzerland and additional doctoral-admission conditions may apply.
Tips for this scholarship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
