This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Tax Advisor based in the United States. This is a fully remote, full-time opportunity. Join a client-focused wealth management environment where your tax expertise will help high-net-worth individuals and families make informed financial decisions. As a Tax Advisor, you will independently manage a portfolio of clients, providing comprehensive tax preparation, planning, and advisory services throughout the year. You will serve as the primary tax contact, building trusted relationships with clients and collaborating closely with financial advisors to maximize after-tax value. The role combines technical tax expertise, proactive planning, and personalized service across complex financial situations. You will also leverage modern tax software, automation, and AI-powered tools to improve efficiency and service quality. With opportunities to mentor junior staff and contribute to continuous improvement, you will play a meaningful role in delivering accurate, practical, and forward-looking tax solutions. This position focuses entirely on client service and advisory excellence, with no sales or business development targets.
Client Relationship Management: Independently manage an assigned portfolio of clients, act as their primary tax contact, and build strong working relationships with clients and financial advisor teams. Lead client meetings, communicate complex tax matters clearly, and provide proactive guidance on tax obligations, planning opportunities, and recommendations. Tax Preparation and Compliance: Prepare, review, and sign federal, state, and local income tax returns, with a focus on complex individual and high-net-worth returns. Handle additional entity, partnership, corporate, trust, and estate returns according to client needs and professional expertise. Tax Planning and Advisory: Develop tax projections, calculate estimated payments, prepare amended returns, and identify tax-saving opportunities. Provide year-round advice on equity compensation, multi-state taxation, trusts and estates, retirement planning, charitable giving, and tax considerations for business owners and closely held businesses. Tax Research and Representation: Research complex tax issues, develop practical recommendations, respond to federal and state tax notices, and represent clients before taxing authorities when necessary. Support clients through audits and examinations while escalating complex or high-risk matters to appropriate specialists. Workflow and Deadline Management: Coordinate filing deadlines, client information requests, extensions, deliverables, estimated payments, notices, and follow-up activities. Maintain accurate records, document engagement progress, follow established procedures, and communicate potential capacity or deadline concerns proactively. Technology and Quality Assurance: Use approved tax preparation software, workflow platforms, automation, and AI tools to improve productivity and service quality. Review delegated and technology-assisted work for accuracy, completeness, privacy, and compliance, retaining accountability for all final deliverables. Team Collaboration and Development: Delegate appropriate tasks to junior staff, provide technical guidance, and support their professional development. Collaborate with tax professionals, financial advisors, and other colleagues to share expertise, improve processes, strengthen operational efficiency, and contribute to training initiatives. Requirements Education and Professional Credentials: A bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, finance, business, or a related field is required, with an accounting degree preferred. An active CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or Juris Doctor (JD) credential is required. Professional Experience: At least seven years of progressive experience in tax compliance, planning, and advisory services, including preparing and reviewing complex individual income tax returns. Demonstrated experience working directly with high-net-worth individuals and families, developing tax projections, and managing client portfolios independently is essential. Technical Tax Expertise: Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, tax research, compliance requirements, and year-round tax planning. Experience with equity compensation, trust and estate planning, multi-state taxation, retirement planning, charitable giving, business owners, and closely held businesses is preferred. Tax Software and Digital Tools: Proficiency in professional tax preparation and research platforms is expected. Familiarity with CCH Axcess, Bloomberg Tax Planner (BNA), workflow automation, and approved AI-powered tools is preferred. The ability to validate digital outputs and protect confidential client information is essential. Client Service and Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts in clear, practical, client-friendly language. Strong relationship-building skills, professional judgment, analytical thinking, and attention to detail are necessary. Organization and Leadership: Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet strict filing deadlines, maintain accurate documentation, and independently oversee a portfolio of client engagements. Comfortable delegating work, reviewing deliverables, guiding junior staff, and taking ownership of client outcomes. Continuous Learning and Adaptability: Commitment to staying current with tax legislation, regulatory developments, and industry best practices through ongoing professional education and required continuing professional education (CPE) hours. Must be proactive, responsive, accountable, and comfortable working remotely while collaborating effectively with a broader team. Benefits Competitive Compensation: Expected starting base salary of $115,000–$135,000 per year , excluding bonuses and benefits. Compensation is determined by experience, qualifications, credentials, skills, and applicable market factors. Remote Work: Fully remote, full-time position offering flexibility to work from home. Health and Wellness: Medical, dental, and vision insurance for eligible employees and their families, along with an employer-contributed Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), and wellness programs. Financial Security: 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching and profit-sharing opportunities. Paid Time Off: 18 days of accrued paid time off annually, increasing to 25 days after four years of service. Paid Holidays: 12 paid holidays each year, including 10 scheduled holidays and two floating holidays. Family Support: Paid parental leave and paid caregiver leave, with caregiver leave available after six months of service.
