In this role, you will prepare accurate, high-quality US individual and business tax returns, supporting business owners and high-income individuals with complex tax situations. You will work primarily with federal tax filings, including Forms 1040, 1120S, and 1120, while ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations and deadlines. Beyond data entry, you will analyze financial statements, identify discrepancies, research tax questions, and apply sound judgment to resolve challenging cases. You will collaborate with tax reviewers, planners, and clients to obtain documentation and ensure a smooth preparation process. This fully remote opportunity offers a demanding, fast-paced environment for an experienced tax professional who values accuracy, independence, continuous learning, and professional growth. The position requires a strong commitment to productivity, with extended working hours and occasional weekend work during tax season.

US tax return preparation: Prepare accurate and timely US individual and business tax returns, primarily Forms 1040, 1120S, and 1120, along with other return types as required. Financial document review: Analyze financial statements, prior-year returns, tax documents, and supporting records to ensure all relevant information is complete, consistent, and properly reflected in tax filings. Business tax compliance: Prepare S-Corporation and C-Corporation returns, understanding how business income, deductions, distributions, and other financial activities affect owners' individual tax liabilities. Tax research and analysis: Research tax questions, interpret applicable federal and state tax rules, and apply sound judgment to complex tax situations rather than relying solely on standardized procedures. Accuracy and quality control: Reconcile tax information, prepare required forms and schedules, verify calculations, and review returns for completeness and accuracy before submitting them for further review. Issue identification and escalation: Identify missing documentation, inconsistencies, unusual transactions, and potential tax risks, escalating complex or unresolved matters to the appropriate team members. Client communication: Request outstanding tax documents, respond promptly to follow-up questions, and communicate professionally with clients to obtain the information needed to complete their returns. Team collaboration: Work closely with tax reviewers, tax planners, and other team members to resolve questions, share relevant findings, and ensure efficient return processing. Workflow and file management: Maintain organized client files and supporting documentation, follow established preparation procedures, and accurately update return statuses and work records. Production and deadline management: Manage a high volume of returns simultaneously, take ownership of assigned work from preparation through completion, and meet established productivity targets and turnaround deadlines. Continuous improvement: Strengthen tax knowledge, learn from complex cases, apply feedback, and contribute to a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and ongoing professional development. Requirements Professional experience: At least five years of professional US tax preparation experience, including experience handling complex individual and business tax returns. Recent preparation volume: Demonstrated experience preparing at least 50 US tax returns within the last six months. Business tax expertise: Hands-on experience preparing business tax returns, particularly Forms 1120S and/or 1120. US tax knowledge: Strong understanding of US federal tax preparation, with the ability to interpret tax rules, analyze financial information, and apply relevant regulations accurately. Individual tax returns: Experience preparing Form 1040 returns, including understanding how business income and other financial activities affect individual tax filings. Financial analysis and reconciliation: Ability to review financial statements, supporting documents, prior-year returns, and tax information to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate reporting. Attention to detail: Strong commitment to accuracy, completeness, documentation quality, and compliance with tax preparation standards. Independent problem-solving: Ability to investigate complex tax issues, conduct relevant research, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of assigned returns. Time management: Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet strict deadlines, maintain consistent productivity, and work efficiently during periods of high demand. Communication skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to request information professionally, explain issues clearly, and collaborate effectively with clients and colleagues. Availability and commitment: Willingness to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with the possibility of working up to 60 hours during tax season or as business needs require. Availability for extended hours and weekends during peak periods is essential. Preferred industry experience: Previous experience working for a US CPA firm, tax preparation firm, or US-based organization in a remote capacity. Tax software proficiency: Familiarity with CCH or Canopy Tax is an advantage. Additional tax expertise: Experience preparing Form 1065 partnership returns is preferred. Education: A bachelor's degree or relevant education in accounting, taxation, or a related discipline is desirable. Professional credentials: An Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification, or another relevant tax certification is strongly preferred. Professional mindset: A proactive, resourceful, and accountable approach to work, with a willingness to learn, accept feedback, communicate issues early, and consistently deliver high-quality results. Benefits Fully remote work: Work remotely from India, offering flexibility in your work location. Full-time opportunity: A full-time position with a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week and additional hours during peak tax season as needed. Competitive hourly compensation: The job posting lists an hourly rate of $12 USD in the role details and $15 USD in a separate compensation field. The applicable rate should be confirmed with the hiring company. Specialized tax experience: Work on complex US individual and business tax returns, including those involving business owners and high-income individuals. Professional development: Strengthen your knowledge of US taxation, business tax structures, tax research, and complex return preparation. Continuous learning: Develop your skills through challenging assignments, practical problem-solving, and feedback from tax professionals. Independent ownership: Take responsibility for assigned returns and develop your ability to manage complex tax work with increasing confidence. Collaborative environment: Work with tax reviewers, planners, and other professionals in a quality-focused, results-oriented setting.
