The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is the representative office of the UN Secretary-General in Geneva. Located at the historic Palais des Nations, it is one of the four major duty stations of the UN Secretariat and the largest United Nations office away from Headquarters in New York.

About the role

This internship is based in the Travel Document and Client Services Section (TDCS), Purchase and Transportation Section (PTS), Central Support Services (CSS), Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The intern will support the TDCS Section in the design, production, and dissemination of public information materials using multimedia and digital tools. This role focuses on transforming existing procedural content into clear, engaging, and user-friendly information packages. By leveraging visual storytelling, interactive formats, and emerging AI-assisted media production tools, the intern will help improve client understanding and reduce application errors. The internship emphasizes content structuring, multimedia development, and digital communication strategies to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of information provided to clients.

Working under the supervision of the TDCS Section Chief, the intern’s duties may include, but are not limited to:

Analyses current workflows and identifies critical information and common pain points in client applications;

Consolidates, structures, and simplifies existing content into coherent, user-centred information packages;

Designs and produces multimedia materials (e.g., infographics, short explainer videos, interactive guides, visual workflows) to support client understanding;

Utilizes digital and AI-assisted tools (e.g., content generation, video editing, voiceover, and visualization platforms) to enhance production efficiency and creativity;

Develops clear visual narratives that guide users step-by-step through application processes;

Supports the creation of interactive or semi-interactive formats (e.g., clickable PDFs, web-based guides, or simple decision trees);

Assists in maintaining and updating the Section’s intranet webpage, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and visually consistent;

Collaborates with team members to validate content accuracy and align messaging with operational procedures;

Analyses common application errors and contributes to content improvements aimed at reducing these issues;

Supports testing and feedback collection on newly developed materials to refine usability and effectiveness;

Provides general support for ad-hoc communication, content, or administrative tasks as required.

Eligibility

A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations is expected. Applicants with backgrounds in Media Production, Social Sciences, Information Technology, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Experience in digital communications, graphic design, multimedia production, and AI-assisted content creation is an advantage.

Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:

Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Candidates must be pursuing or must have pursued their degree in Media Production, Social Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field. Applicants should indicate which criterion they meet and attach proof to the application; an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the type of internship is required.
