The University of Central Asia's Afghanistan Research Initiative is accepting applications for 2027/28 non-resident research fellowships supporting original Afghanistan-focused research by eligible PhD-qualified researchers based outside Afghanistan.
Complete fellowship details
The official call offers up to USD 18,000 over an 18-month fellowship. Fellows undertake original Afghanistan-focused research and are expected to produce a peer-reviewed article, organize thematic roundtables, prepare knowledge briefs and submit progress reports. Applications include proof of institutional affiliation, a writing sample, research proposal, 18-month workplan, detailed budget and budget narrative; a support letter is optional.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD, be affiliated or formally associated with a recognised university or established research institution, propose original research aligned with the Afghanistan Research Initiative's themes and be based outside Afghanistan during the fellowship. Applicants of all nationalities may apply and must demonstrate sufficient English proficiency for research outputs and communication with ARI.
Tips for this fellowship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified on the University of Central Asia's official current fellowship page and cross-checked against the live ARI Non-Resident Research Fellowship application form. The source states a 1 October 2026 deadline but does not safely specify a closing timezone/time, so only deadline_date is stored. Repository search found no existing record for the current fellowship/application route before publication.
Job and Scholarship is the discovery and verification layer. Confirm eligibility, dates, salary/funding and application instructions on the original source before submitting anything.
