Overview
The University of Sydney's Australian Government Research Training Program supports international higher-degree-by-research students with competitive stipend and tuition-fee scholarships.
Complete scholarship details
For 2027, the RTP Stipend is A$44,293 per year plus relocation and thesis allowances. International recipients of an RTP Stipend are automatically awarded the RTP Fee Offset covering 100% tuition fees for up to 14 research periods plus Overseas Student Health Cover. The submission deadline for Research Periods 1 and 2 of 2027 is 11 September 2026; Research Periods 3 and 4 have a later 18 December 2026 deadline.
Eligibility requirements
International students commencing or already enrolled in a higher degree by research can be considered competitively. Preference may be given to PhD candidates and to applicants who have not previously received an Australian Government or University scholarship or completed an HDR at the same level. Commencing students must apply for HDR admission and submit the scholarship application by the applicable deadline.
Tips for this scholarship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified on the University of Sydney's official RTP international scholarship page. The 2027 stipend rate is explicitly A$44,293 p.a.; the page gives date-only submission deadlines, so no exact time was fabricated.
Job and Scholarship is the discovery and verification layer. Confirm eligibility, dates, salary/funding and application instructions on the original source before submitting anything.
