Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a USMA Director, Governance based in the United States. We are seeking a strategic and transformation-oriented leader to strengthen governance, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness across U.S. Medical Affairs. In this senior leadership role, you will design and implement integrated operating models that connect medical governance, clinical drug supply, medical operations, and cross-functional business capabilities. You will translate strategic priorities into scalable processes, clear decision-making structures, and measurable performance improvements within a highly regulated healthcare environment. Working closely with senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams, you will drive complex transformation initiatives, manage operational risks, and establish sustainable ways of working across organizational boundaries. You will also champion responsible AI adoption, digital enablement, and data-driven decision-making to improve efficiency, accountability, and business outcomes. This remote opportunity is ideal for an experienced professional who combines strategic vision, operational expertise, and influential leadership to deliver meaningful, lasting change.

Design, implement, and continuously optimize integrated operating models across Medical Governance, Medical Operations, Clinical Drug Supply, and other U.S. Medical Affairs capabilities. Translate strategic objectives into actionable implementation plans with clearly defined scope, milestones, decision rights, resource requirements, dependencies, risks, and performance indicators. Assess existing operational processes, identify root causes of inefficiencies and bottlenecks, and implement sustainable improvements that enhance cross-functional execution. Establish standardized operating practices for intake, prioritization, handoffs, service expectations, escalation procedures, issue resolution, documentation, and performance reviews. Lead the development and continuous improvement of the medical governance framework, including governance forums, risk management, corrective and preventive action (CAPA) oversight, audit readiness, annual health checks, decision documentation, dashboards, and executive reporting. Strengthen organizational effectiveness across Medical Operations through operating model refinement, role clarification, objective setting, coaching, performance management, talent development, succession planning, and resource allocation. Partner with Clinical Drug Supply teams to improve forecasting, planning, ordering, packaging, labeling, distribution, inventory visibility, vendor coordination, issue escalation, and supply continuity for medical studies and programs. Coordinate dependencies across contracting, clinical operations, supply chain, finance, procurement, legal, quality, compliance, and governance functions to enable integrated delivery and early risk resolution. Architect cross-functional transformation initiatives by defining the case for change, future-state vision, design principles, capability requirements, implementation roadmaps, and measurable value objectives. Develop transformation blueprints that align people, processes, governance, technology, data, decision rights, and operating practices across organizational boundaries. Establish transformation governance mechanisms to sequence initiatives, manage interdependencies, resolve design trade-offs, mitigate risks, and maintain alignment from strategy through implementation. Create scalable implementation playbooks, decision frameworks, dashboards, operational tools, and performance measures that translate strategic intent into repeatable practices. Drive adoption across U.S., global, and operational teams through stakeholder engagement, leadership alignment, communication, role clarity, capability building, and technology enablement. Track transformation progress, adoption, performance outcomes, and value realization, using data and stakeholder feedback to refine solutions and sustain long-term impact. Serve as a strategic partner to functional leaders by translating complex operational challenges into actionable recommendations, informed decisions, and measurable implementation plans. Influence senior stakeholders to align priorities, resolve competing demands, and reinforce enterprise-wide accountability and shared ownership. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, proactive problem-solving, transparent communication, and cross-functional collaboration. Champion the responsible use of artificial intelligence by integrating AI, automation, analytics, and digital workflow tools into appropriate business processes. Collaborate with technology, privacy, legal, compliance, quality, and business teams to implement fit-for-purpose digital solutions with appropriate safeguards, governance, and controls. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, Technology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is preferred. At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, supply chain, or another highly regulated industry. Demonstrated success leading strategic initiatives, enterprise transformation, organizational effectiveness, or capability development within complex, matrixed organizations. Consulting or agency experience is an advantage. Proven experience designing and implementing cross-functional operating models and large-scale transformation or operational excellence programs, including sustained adoption and measurable outcomes. Broad knowledge of Medical Affairs operations, including governance, contracting, vendor management, clinical drug supply, quality, regulatory compliance, risk management, audit readiness, and evidence generation. Strong expertise in diagnosing organizational and operational challenges and translating findings into improved roles, decision rights, workflows, systems, technology solutions, and stakeholder engagement strategies. Advanced program and project management capabilities, including strategic planning, prioritization, dependency management, risk mitigation, implementation oversight, and value realization. Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data, external evidence, and stakeholder insights into clear, executive-level recommendations. Experience developing and implementing practical operational tools, dashboards, trackers, service-level measures, capacity models, decision frameworks, and governance mechanisms. Demonstrated AI and digital fluency through relevant certifications, applied experience, or a portfolio of AI-enabled solutions that have improved decision-making, workflows, organizational capabilities, or measurable business outcomes. Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to align senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders without relying on direct reporting authority. Exceptional executive communication, facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to operate effectively in a highly networked, fast-paced environment while fostering transparency, collaboration, and shared accountability. Sound business judgment and the ability to balance speed, quality, compliance, supply continuity, stakeholder expectations, and organizational priorities. Intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning and the practical application of emerging technologies and operational practices.
